Somewhere across the busy international waters, a yearning heart reaches out for their loved ones back at home.

They could be a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend, or a relative—someone whose profession demands the sacrifice of being away from home and often missing the most important celebrations, especially Christmas.

Nevertheless, love unites them. When distance feels too much, connection is sustained through communication because for them, a simple greeting can ease their loneliness, asking about their well-being brings a familiar comfort, and wishing them safe voyages and a "Merry Christmas" kindle their hope for faster days for them to finally go back home.

Alexandra “Alex” Eala ended the 26-year gold medal drought for the Philippines in the South East Asian (SEA) Games women’s tennis after clinching the singles title on December 18, 2025.

Eala took down Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew in women’s singles gold medal match, with a score of 6-1, 6-2, to secure the country’s first SEA Games gold in the event since 1999.

With that victory, Eala became the third Filipina to win a gold medal in the SEA Games women’s tennis, joining Pia Tamayo who dominated the 1981 SEA Games, and Maricris Fernandez who last achieved the feat in the 1999 SEA Games.

The triumph marked Eala’s first SEA Games gold medal, further improving her bronze medal finish in the 2021 SEA Games.

Eala now owns three medals in the Sea Games—two bronze medals and one gold medal under her name— further cementing her place in Philippines Tennis History.
