PILIPINAS SA AMERIKA
OCTOBER 26, 2025 / SUNDAY
Hereβs our interview with Al Rice from Lorton, Virginia. Al Rice is the son of missionaries, Reverend Delbert and Mrs. Esther Rice, who left the United States to serve China and the Philippines many years ago. Al was born in the small town of Mapleton, Oregon, but he grew up in the Philippines, living in different provinces such as Ilocos Norte, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya.
Because of his years in the country, Al learned to love the Filipino people and their way of life. He studied at Silliman University in Dumaguete, one of the most respected schools in the Philippines. Even though he is American, Al speaks Ilocano and Tagalog fluently, something that always surprises and delights people when they hear him talk!
After his studies, Al served in the United States Army as a pilot and even worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. His military career taught him discipline, love of country, and a strong sense of duty, these are values he carries with him to this day.
Al is also a prostate cancer survivor, and his journey through recovery has made him even more thankful for life and for the people who supported him. Today, he is using his time and blessings to give back to the Filipinos in the Philippines that once cared for his parents and his family. He continues to show his love for the Philippines through various projects and outreach programs that help those in need.
