⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Diving into this book blindly shocked me to my core. I didn’t expect the plot to be “THAT PLOT”. But I was completely wrecked on my way to the last few pages.
I cried.
So HARD😭
I love how the story made me aware of the Hollywood setting wayback 1920s. The things that you can and you cannot do as an actor. The things that actors usually sacrifice for the sake of their careers. Stuff like that. I love that every husband comes with a lot of learnings. Evelyn is such a selfless person. A person full of wisdom. This book is still my favorite book by far.

Written by the American writer Madeline Miller. The book was set during the Greek Heroic Age retelling of the Trojan War from the POV of Patroclus. The story revolves around Patroclus’ journey and his interesting relationship with Achilles and their exploits during the Trojan War.

📌This book has been on my TBR for two years. I am well aware of the mixed reviews about this book hence I got more interested. I am quite familiar with greek mythology and the characters since high school. We actually studied the book by Edith Hamilton in one of our classes. So imagine how shocked i was when i read this side of the story😅

I was expecting the story will revolve around Achilles but to my surprise, there’s this boy that came out of somewhere. I know he’s there but I never studied his character nor expected that version of the story. IYKWIM?

Nevertheless, I love how the author presented the other side of the box. The story that most of us are not well aware of. I love how the other side of each character was presented.

Regardless of the plot, I love how the feelings of the main characters evolved in the story. From innocence to curiosity to confusion and finally acceptance. Patroclus selflessly fought for his love without overstepping boundaries. I love him for that. 🤎

Felt like this book was all about the horse—not hating on horses! I just didn't feel the connection or chemistry between Billie and Vaughn. The conflict felt forced, and Vaughn didn't really stand out like Elsie Silver's usual leads. It was more dislike than enemies-to-lovers, and the insta-love didn't help. Pacing was a bit choppy too. Still, you might enjoy it more than I did. Personally? Billie and Double Diablo had more chemistry than the actual couple.

One trope I'm honestly so tired of is the "I'm not good for her" or "I'll ruin her" mindset from the mmc. It just doesn't work for me anymore. The plot didn't really grip me either. I mostly kept reading for the past convos at the start of each chapter. I did like Cole and Violet together, but the whole internet plot wasn't my thing. That said, Cole's journey through grief and how committed he was? That part was done really well.

This book was such a breath of fresh air. It started off like your usual romance, but it quickly got deeper in the best way. No annoying miscommunication or denial, just pure tension, banter, and a healing journey that hit hard. I loved the slow burn and how their relationship naturally grew. You could really see them fall in love, and it was so, so satisfying to read.

I didn't expect this book to hit so hard emotionally! The age gap was written so well, I devoured it. And the way he actually worked on himself for her? Iconic. I usually don't enjoy third act breakups, but this one felt right and was beautifully done. It made me love the characters even more. The final chapters had me in tears. Such a touching story of healing and redemption. I'm seriously gonna miss this series. :((((
