The University of San Agustin (USA) Publications (USA Publications, informally known as USA Pub) is the official student press corps of the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, Philippines. Originally a high school publication of Colegio de San Agustin de Iloilo (former name of USA), it was founded on 1928 with its first recorded publication released on August 1928. The press corps publishes

The Augustinian Mirror (magazine), The Augustinian (newspaper), Irong-irong (literary journal), Dingding ni Gusting (community wall newspaper), and other special issues. Today it is one of the most awarded college press corps in the Philippines. It has received its first national distinction when The Augustinian Mirror was adjudged as one of the three best-edited school magazines in the country during the late 1950s.

𝗨𝗦𝗔 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗯. 𝟮𝟱

University President Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon released Memorandum No. 11, s.o. 2025, stating that the University of San Agustin (USA) will hold regular classes and office operations on February 25, 2025, in line with Proclamation No. 727, marking the day as a Special Working Day in commemorating the EDSA People Power Anniversary.

All scheduled examinations on the said date following the preliminary examination period will continue as planned.

The university also encourages the Augustinian community to reflect on the lessons learned from EDSA through prayer, contemplation, and educational activities that promote active citizenship.

𝗣𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀' 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Pope Francis, 88, is currently undergoing treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital for a polymicrobial respiratory infection, which includes double pneumonia since February 18, where recent evaluations suggest a slight improvement in his condition, with decreased inflammation levels.

The news of his hospitalization has led to an outpouring of prayers from Catholics worldwide where Archbishop of Manila, Cardinal José F. Advincula, relayed a request from the Vatican’s representative in the Philippines for special prayers.

"We ask all communities to offer holy hours for the Holy Father’s recovery and for the medical professionals caring for him," Archbishop Advincula said in an interview.

Despite his illness, the Pope has been able to sit up and partake in light activities especially when visitors visited the pope like Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

"I was pleased to see him alert and in good spirits. As always, he maintained his well-known sense of humor," said Prime Minister Meloni.

Medical specialists remain cautious due to the Pope’s age and pre-existing conditions but acknowledge that his recent improvements are promising.

While the Vatican has not announced a discharge date, officials emphasize the need for rest and ongoing treatment as the global Catholic community continues to convey messages of support, hoping for the Pope’s full recovery.

Visayas leg of GMA Masterclass: Eleksyon 2025 Dapat Totoo Series, which aims to reach young and well-informed voters, has taken place at the University of San Agustin (USA) Auditorium, February 17.

In partnership with GMA Integrated News, GMA Regional TV, and Synergy, the series brought their Senior Vice President and Head Oliver Victor Amoroso and GMA journalists from various fields: Martin Antonio, Susan Enriquez, Mariz Umali, Hannah Petrache, and Zen Quilantang, alongside Sparkle Celebrity host Martin Javier and performer Mariane Osabel, as they emphasized the vital role of the youth this upcoming midterm elections.

"Local news matters. [...] I encourage you all to stay informed about the issues that matter to your community. [...] Kung anuman ang ating magiging desisyon sa eleksyon, ayan ang magsisilbing pamana ng pagbabago sa mga susunod na henerasyon," expressed Zen Quilatang, a correspondent for GMA Regional News-One Western Visayas.

Moreover, broadcast journalist Mariz Umali of GMA Integrated News encouraged voters to study the candidates carefully, saying that elections are not about politicians but the Filipino people.

The program concluded with an open forum in which Augustinians, together with students from the University of the Philippines-Visayas, participated.

Igniting intellectual discourses and support from the various departments, the St. Augustine’s Cup Interdepartmental Debate Series 2025 - Semi-finals round, with the theme “Pagpasanyog sang Kamatuoran Kag Kauswagan,” transpired February 14 at the CPMT Lobby, University of San Agustin.

In the first match, COC, representing the negative side, emerged victorious over CPMT, the affirmative side, in a debate on the motion: "All political candidates convicted of corruption or human rights violations should be permanently disqualified from running for public office in the Philippines."

Meanwhile, in the second match, COT (affirmative side) triumphed over CNND (negative side) in a debate on the motion: "Only one party list shall be allowed to represent a sector in Congress."

“Today is about the pursuit of truth, and that pursuit is only meaningful when it upholds both fairness and integrity,"remarked Jeanine Therez Perez, Chairman of the U-Week Debate Cup 2025.

Moreover, Marielle Gangoso was awarded Best Speaker, while Christine Ann Golez was named Best Debater for the first match, whereas in the second match, Ma Kaisha Ann Barrios received the Best Speaker award, and Pampag Bon Christian was recognized as Best Debater.

When journalists are censored, attacked, or killed, it is not just their lives at risk—it is the people’s right to know. The ongoing violence against the press in the Philippines in the past six years shows that this issue has persistently remained.

Now more than ever, we must defend press freedom and protect journalists from this inhumane violence. Without a free press, accountability fades, and injustice prevails. Defend press freedom—because without truth, there is no democracy.

Mayor Jerry Treñas, through Executive Order No. 019, has announced the suspension of classes at all levels in both private and public schools within the territorial jurisdiction of Iloilo on February 13, in line with the conduct of the Bagong Pilipinas Rally.

In light of the declaration, Rev. Fr. Arnel S. Dizon, OSA, University President, released Memorandum No. 10 s.o. 2025 adhering to the suspension of face-to-face classes and transitioning to an online mode of delivery.

Meanwhile, all scheduled activities, including meetings, audits, and recollections, will proceed as planned to ensure adherence to approved timelines and prevent disruptions.

The Iloilo Doctors College (IDC) Medics triumphed over the University of San Agustin (USA) Golden Eagles in a thrilling winner-take-all Game 3 of the ILOPRISAA Men's Basketball Tournament, 81-72, at the USA Gymnasium, Feb. 12.

Despite a strong start from the Golden Eagles with an early 5-point lead after the first two frames, the Medics rallied in the second half, taking a slim 2-point lead by the end of the third quarter. In the final period, IDC exploded offensively, stretching their lead to 9 points to seal the championship.

With this win, IDC will represent ILOPRISAA in the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletics Association Meet 2025, which will be in Roxas City, Capiz, from February 21-24.

Fielding questions from journalists from the University of San Agustin (USA) Publications and FM Radio Iloilo, MMUSA candidates expressed their diverse platforms and perspectives.

The conference served as an avenue for the contestants to engage with the Augustinian community in preparation for Mr. and Ms. USA this March 2025.
