DSWD6 SLP, SM Foundation launch KSK Farming Program in Iloilo

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI, through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), and SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) officially launch the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) Farming Program in Iloilo Province at SM City Iloilo.

Gathering for the event were 125 participants from Barangay Salacay, Cabatuan; the Dumangas Agromet Station in Barangay Monfort South; and Barangay Mulapula, Passi City, Iloilo. This initiative aims to foster inclusive and sustainable livelihoods by empowering smallholder farmers through skills training, seed capital assistance, market access, and enterprise development support.

To equip participants with practical and advanced farming knowledge, SLP continues its collaboration with Cresel Integrated Training Livelihood, Inc. In coordination with the local government units of Cabatuan, Dumangas, and Passi City, demo farms were identified and assessed as training sites.

Under the guidance of Cresel’s trainer, Ms. Ma. Elna Romero, beneficiaries will undergo a 14-week comprehensive training covering high-value crop production, organic farming techniques, and post-harvest handling.

More than just technical skills, the partnership also aims to enhance the market readiness of SLP-organized farmer associations. These groups will be connected to institutional buyers and local markets, opening opportunities for sustainable income. Government partners, including the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), will also provide ongoing support in the form of technical assistance, enterprise development services, and marketing training.

Adding inspiration to the launch, former KSK graduates shared their success stories, showing how the program opened new doors for their families and livelihoods.
