ILOILO CITY โ A total 140 multigrade teachers from Regions VI, VII, VIII, and the Negros Island Region (NIR) gathered at the AV Hall of West Visayas State University for the Institution-Based Summer Training Program for Multigrade Teachers (IBSTP-MG) in partnership with Department of Education scheduled from May 11 to 30, 2026.
The participants, divided into Class A and Class B, include educators from Iloilo, Guimaras, Antique, Bohol, Cebu Province, Talisay City, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Maasin City, and Borongan City, along with teachers from the College of Education.
The training is facilitated by doctors and professors from the College of Education and aims to strengthen the competencies of teachers handling multigrade classes, particularly those without formal specialized training in multigrade instruction.
This initiative program is an intensive 18-unit professional development program conducted over two consecutive summers. The program consists of six courses with 54 hours each and combines lectures, workshops, collaborative activities, and reflective practice sessions.
Daily sessions run from 7:00 to 11:00 in the morning and 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon, with designated periods for independent work and reflective practice.
Based on the program objectives the training focuses on flexible multigrade teaching strategies, peer teaching, and learning stations while guiding teachers in developing localized lesson plans and instructional materials suited to their communities.The program also aims to improve student learning outcomes and help reduce teacher burnout through effective and adaptive multigrade teaching approaches.
