Based on available data and observation, the presence of TY Goring and the enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) across Western Visayas, Iloilo City will continue to experience occasional light to moderate with at times heavy rains and cloudy skies with 90%-100% cloud cover, with an expected 50 mm of rainfall accumulation. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will continue to bring gusty conditions and a Gale Warning is in effect along the seaboards of Visayas. As of 3:00 PM, the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center recorded a total of 89 flooded barangays and a total of 12,050 affected individuals. The Barangay DRRM Committees and general public are advised to heed the risks posed by the continuous flooding in low lying areas such leptospirosis, acute gastro-enteritis, and contamination of deep wells among others.
Therefore, to ensure the safety and general welfare of the children and the residents of the city, we hereby recommend to the Chair of the CDRRMC, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the suspension of face-to-face classes from preschool to senior high school in both public and private schools in the City of Iloilo, tomorrow, August 30, 2023. Suspension of classes for the college level is left to the discretion of the school administrators.
