The second-year BS Hospitality Management students of West Visayas State Universityโ€“College of Business and Management recently completed a transformative seven-day educational tour across Manila, Tagaytay, and Baguioโ€”an experience that blended learning, industry immersion, and cultural discovery.

Across the week, students from BSHM 2A and 2B explored historical and remarkable destinations such as Peopleโ€™s Park in the Sky, Enchanted Kingdom, and key attractions in Baguio and Manila, grounding their classroom lessons in real-world settings. Beyond sightseeing, the tour placed strong emphasis on industry engagement. At Gardenia, students witnessed the scale and precision of commercial food manufacturing, while MacroAsia opened their eyes to the complexities of airline catering and inflight food service. A seminar and hotel familiarization at The Plaza Garden Hotel and Residences further deepened their understanding of hotel operations and quality management.

Professional skills were refined through hands-on sessions, including a bartending and beverage workshop at TGI Fridays, where students learned service techniques and guest interaction. At Okada Manila, they attended seminars on food safety and hygiene and even tried their hand at sushi-making under the guidance of a Japanese chefโ€”an experience that highlighted the discipline and artistry behind global hospitality standards.

The journey concluded with on-board ship training during their voyage back to Iloilo, offering students a firsthand look at shipboard hospitality and the teamwork required in maritime and cruise operations.

In just seven days, the students returned not only with memories, but with a strengthened foundation for their future careersโ€”proof that learning becomes most powerful when experienced beyond the four walls of a classroom.
