'Mga Aningal sa Taguangkan' (Echoes From the Womb) by director Rovic Lopez is officially selected for the Sinag Maynila 2025 student shorts category.

This folkloric horror, mystery drama film was shot in the middle of the pandemic. It was a product of the collaborative efforts of E Unlimited, Cineastas a Vela, Melon Films, and Padayon Films with the support from Lgu Calinog and Negros Cultural Foundation, Inc..

Echoes From the Womb introduces Reve Peremne with Glory Ann Castre and Kezia Camille Tenefrancia as the main cast. ALUMNI NEWS I Film 'Sa Burutlakan' composed of current, former univ studes earns spot in Bakunawa Fest

Commitment to storytelling is at the heart of film "Sa Burutlakan," earning its coveted place in the Maligpot Fantastika Fantastic Competition program of Bakunawa Fest.

Directed by Kyle Jabian and Aaron Escobido, the film stands as one of the select entries from around the world, weaving a narrative that delves into the themes of freedom and self-discovery.

Translated as "Where the Sun Rises” in English, this cinematic work, written by Rovic Lopez and Glydel Beatisula, delves into the narrative of Hilway and Luàs, confronting an invasion that shrouds their world in darkness, robbing them of their symbol of freedom—the sun. Their odyssey toward the eastern horizon becomes a journey of self-discovery and the complexities of genuine liberty.

Notably, director Mr. Escobido was a former Managing Editor of the Navigator, and one of the writers Mr. Lopez served as the Associate Editor of The Dolphin of this university.

The theme song was performed by Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) alumna Ms. Kezia Camille Tenefrancia. Mdpn. John Francis Babiera, the current Filipino Editor of this publication, has contributed as the film's Gaffer.

Filmed in the town of Calinog, "Sa Burutlakan" features Mar Caballero Diaz, a Panay Bukidnon, as one of the lead actresses.

In anticipation of its world premiere at Bakunawa Fest, Burutlakan Productions, in collaboration with Cineastas A Vela and Melon Productions, expressed their gratitude: "This is huge for us because this is our WORLD PREMIERE. Thank you for seeing the potential in our young filmmakers, Bakunawa Fest."

Bakunawa Fest celebrated a decade of dedication from volunteer filmmakers and artists and is renowned as the pioneer of genre-based cinema in the Philippines.
