🏆 CONGRATULATIONS l🏆 TIGBAUAN SWEEPS DUMANGAS TO WIN MAYOR STEPHEN PALMARES BASKETBALL TITLE
Tigbauan played with a lot of patience and resilience as they scored a come-from-behind 82-77 win to sweep Dumangas to bring home the 1st Mayor Stephen A. Palmares Invitational Inter-Town Basketball Tournament 2024 crow at the jam-packed City of Passi Arena on Tuesday evening.
Tigbauan has to climb from a double digit deficit, the last time was at 44-54 with more than three minutes left to play in the third quarter, before they mounted a huge rally on their way to claim the title.
Down 13-25 at the end of the first quarter, Tigbauan started to make spurts of rallies that put them closer within, 34-41 at the half.
Still, their efforts fell short as Dumangas regained its poise and brought up its lead to 10, 54-44, past the halfway mark of the third canto.
Tigbauan started to find its range and managed to close the third quarter on a 13-5 run, that clipped Dumangas lead down to 59-57.
As Dumangas looking to live for another game, they put up a gallant 10-4 rally at the start of the fourth for a 69-61 lead.
However that was the last time, Dumangas had a comfortable lead as Tigbauan shooter Peter Traviña found a c***k on the opponent's defense to lead his team's uprising.
A 12-2 run, highlighted by Traviña's three triples put Tigbauan at the lead, 73-71, for the first time since leading 8-6 back in the first quarter.
Dumangas did not gave up just yet as they managed to retake the lead 74-73 with a little over a minute left in the game.
Tigbauan scored the next two baskets but Dumangas evened the score at 77-all with a booming triple at the 57 seconds mark.
However, Tigbauan could not be denied as Traviña sank another 3-pointer at the last 27.8 seconds mark for an 80-77 lead, as Dumangas self destructed at the other end.
Traviña then calmly sank two free throws for the final score.
Tigbauan received the P150,000 champions prize and a handsomely crafted trophy from Mayor Atty. Stephen Palmares, Vice-Mayor Elyzer Chavez and some members of the city council while Dumangas pocketed the runner-up prize of P100,000 and a trophy.
