The Municipality of Leganes has no jurisdiction over the repair of Calle Progreso, the road stretching from the Leganes Municipal Hall all the way to the coastal road, according to Leganes Mayor Vicente "Junjun" Jaen II.

Mayor Jaen clarified that Calle Progreso is classified as a provincial road, with reblocking works being carried out by the provincial government since 2018.

However, recognizing that the road directly affects Leganes residents and motorists who regularly pass through the area, Talking Point, hosted by Antoinette Casero-Toledo, followed up with the Provincial Government Office to inquire about the road's condition and current status.

The inquiry confirmed that a budget has already been allocated for the road project, with repairs possibly expected to begin within the year.

With this development, Leganes continues to move forward in its push toward proactive, transparent governance.

As fuel prices continue to climb, transport operators are weighing a difficult balance โ€” sustaining their operations without placing too heavy a burden on commuters.

In the second portion of Talking Point and Debate sa Madge Cafรฉ, hosts Antoinette Casero-Toledo and Jhey R. Villalva sat down with special guest Halley R. Alcarde, General Manager of the Western Visayas Transport Cooperative (WVTC), to discuss the rising cost of fuel, the status of driver subsidies, and the cooperative's proposed fare adjustment.

Alcarde explained that rising fuel and operating costs are among the key factors driving the push for higher fares, as transport cooperatives work to sustain their operations while striving to keep fares manageable for commuters.

Beyond the fare issue, Alcarde also highlighted WVTC's ongoing cooperation with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), noting that the agency's monitoring and evaluation efforts have helped the cooperative identify areas for improvement, strengthen compliance, and enhance the quality of its services.

Both Alcarde and WVTC Chairman Robert "Boyet" Parcon expressed their appreciation to LTO Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso "Didoy" P. Geduspan II for the agency's continued support and monitoring, which they credited for the cooperative's steady improvement. They also expressed hope that similar LTO monitoring could soon be extended to other transport groups across the region.

More than just a race against time, an upcoming running event promises to take participants on a journey through Iloilo's rich history โ€” one stride at a time.

During the first portion of Talking Point and Debate sa Madge Cafรฉ, hosted by Antoinette Casero-Toledo and Jhey R. Villalva, special guest Pyt Trimaรฑez โ€” triathlon event organizer and former Pavia SB Member โ€” discussed the upcoming running event, which aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while showcasing Iloilo's heritage and historic landmarks.

The race will start along Diversion Road and pass through Jaro Plaza toward the Muelle area, featuring historic churches, the Hispanic heritage district, the port, and other landmarks that reflect Iloilo's identity and Ilonggo pride.

Trimaรฑez said organizers are closely coordinating with the Iloilo City Tourism Office and other government agencies to ensure proper traffic management, road safety, and public convenience throughout the event. Participants from different age groups are welcome, with runners grouped into appropriate categories.

He also acknowledged that temporary road closures may cause traffic congestion, calling for clear signages, advance advisories, and alternative routes โ€” a concern made even more pressing with the ongoing Aganan Flyover construction.

For Trimaรฑez, the event is more than just a race. It is a celebration of wellness that also gives participants the opportunity to experience Iloilo's history, scenery, and heritage firsthand.
