The cafe offers more than just a quiet escape, it provides a welcome pause from the fast-paced rhythm of Iloilo City, located just approximately 30 minutes from the main city. This space invites guests to slow down and have that tranquil moment beneath the shade of a graceful camphor tree.

Rather than following a contemporary commercial space, Sanchezá Cafe embraces its heritage by occupying a preserved ancestral countryside home allowing its historic character to remain an integral part of the experience. The name “Sanchezá” is inspired by the family name, 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘻, with an additional letter “A” at the end. This simple letter carries a deep personal meaning, honoring 𝘓𝘰𝘭𝘰 𝘈𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘓𝘰𝘭𝘢 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘢 whose names both begin with A — paying tribute to the two people who helped shaped the Sanchez family.

Stepping through the doors of a century-old heritage mansion. Spotted! Cyril visits Balay Remedios located at 183 Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City Proper (situated in the vicinity of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol and just fronting the National Museum of the Philippines).

The house was built in 1917 by the brilliant engineer and designer 𝘌𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘣𝘪𝘰 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘶 𝘝𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘷𝘢, along with his brother 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘪𝘯 — famously recognized as the “𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴” of Iloilo during the city's economic boom.

The mansion features a 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘰 (house of stone) architectural style, capturing the affluent aesthetic of Iloilo's golden past. It is characterized by expansive, polished wooden floors, massive sliding windows, and intricate 𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘴 or small window slats under the sills that allow for natural ventilation.

The house eventually earned the name 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘴 in honor of Eusebio’s wife, 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘴 𝘔𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢 𝘚𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘷𝘢, whose family originally hailed from sugar lands in Negros. Passed down through generations, the mansion is currently managed by the third generation of the Villanueva family. In September 2023, the family officially opened the estate to the public as 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘴 𝘐𝘭𝘰𝘪𝘭𝘰 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘮 & 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵.
