God loves those who are poor, but “poor” is not limited to finances. Some of the wealthiest people are unable to see their poverty and fail to see their need for the Lord. If you lack patience with your kids, love from your loved ones, desire for purposeful work, or self-control, recognize the need for His grace and He will love you and bless you. God explains to His people how silly it is for them to put their hope into a man-made idol. He admonishes them for not reflecting on what they are doing. Why would a wood figure made by hand be able to offer salvation? How many things do we put our trust in just because someone else tells us this is a sure thing? As much as we should desire to be kind and giving, sometimes it can be difficult to do so in our current culture. We want to be good but don't want to be taken advantage of. Like many things in life, this requires a delicate balance of assertiveness and servitude. If you are heavy on assertiveness, try being a bit more subservient today by allowing others to express themselves more. If you're a believer, you know that non-believers surround us all the time. Instead of being influenced by others to do ungodly things, be a light to others by demonstrating godly behavior. We all have a nemesis, or perhaps a not-so-favorite person. Instead of avoiding them or being short with them, give them a compliment or simply say something nice. In other words, be a light!

We earn many things in life, such as money, respect, recognition and love. However, this is not the case with salvation. We cannot perform enough good deeds or say a magic number of prayers in order to be welcomed into Heaven. Salvation alone comes through faith and recognition that God alone is the only and true God.

Do you ever doubt God’s love for you? Do you wonder if He is on your side? His word boldly declares that you are not only loved but honored. That means God values your thoughts, prayers, dreams, and desires. You are an active part in the relationship you have with him. It's easy to become annoyed by irritating comments, especially if they're made by people on your questionable list. They tend to make us think, do, or say irrational things. Your day can then become unpleasant without you even knowing. However, others around you like your spouse, kids, or parents will be in tune. Instead of transferring your temper or irrationality, try to stay calm. The best way is to say a prayer asking God for patience within you and peace surrounding you.
