Happy Womenโ€™s History Month 2026! ๐Ÿ’œThis March, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and extraordinary achievements of women across the world. From the pioneers of the suffrage and labor movements to todayโ€™s leaders in science, politics, education, arts, and advocacy, women continue to shape history with courage and determination.

Womenโ€™s History Month is more than a reflection of the past โ€” it is a powerful reminder of what women can and will continue to accomplish. As we honor trailblazers who broke barriers, we also recognize the importance of pushing forward for gender equity, expanded opportunities, healthcare rights, and stronger representation in leadership.

As we align this celebration with International Womenโ€™s Day on March 8th, may this month be a tribute and a call to action to continue to forge a future in which all women and girls can thrive.

Hereโ€™s to honoring the past, celebrating the present, and empowering the future.

Editorial: The Trillion Peso Question We Cannot Ignore

The second wave of the Trillion Peso March on November 30, 2025 brought thousands of Filipinos back to the streetsโ€”students, workers, church groups, parents, and ordinary citizens who felt that silence had become too costly. From the People Power Monument to Liwasang Bonifacio and Recto Avenue, people showed up not because they were told to, but because the alleged trillions in questionable spending are too heavy to ignore.

Police estimates reported by major news outlets noted around 5,000 protesters at the People Power Monument, with smaller groups in Manila and along Recto Avenue. Though the turnout was smaller than expected, it remained meaningful amid a tense political climate and the deployment of over 15,000 police officers. Despite this, the demonstrations stayed peaceful, proving that civic action becomes chaotic only when institutions refuse to listen.

At the core of this movement is not rumor but frustration over alleged irregularities in flood-control and infrastructure projects meant to protect communities. Protesters, as reported by Philstar and AP News, are calling for transparency, prosecution of those involved, and recovery of public funds if any were stolen. Their demand is simple: if nothing is being hidden, then the truth should be easy to show.

While some critics label the protests as politically motivated, organizers maintain that the call is not about removing a particular leader. It is about institutional accountabilityโ€”one that should not depend on who holds power. For students like us, this matters deeply because we inherit the consequences of todayโ€™s decisions: the debt, the disrepair, and the distrust.

The Trillion Peso March may not be perfect, but it has pushed corruption back into the national conversation, where it belongs. The government owes the public more than assurances; it owes clear, verifiable answers. Until those answers come, the public will continue to ask the question that justice demands:
"Who will finally be held accountable for betraying the nationโ€™s trust?โ€

A bag of rice, a can of sardines and a three peso worth of coffee. Is that enough? Is that what we filipinos deserve?

Resiliency has always been our defense as we are in a battle with thousands of calamities, super typhoons, flash floods, and landslides. Instant death of our loved ones, but yet Filipinos are to bounce back and remain undefeated.

But โ€œresiliencyโ€ should never be an excuse for neglect. We praised the strength of the Filipinos, yet we tend forget the question โ€œwhy are we forced to be strong and resilient at the very beginning?โ€. Year after year, the scene has always been the same; families seeks for a safer place to stay, overflowing evacuation centers and limited relief goods. We commend survival, when what we should demand is accountability.

When did we settle for โ€œenoughโ€? When did we let disaster response a short-term fix rather than long-term solutions?

Yes, Filipinos are strong. But this is not a reason to settle with this kind of system. At the end of the day we deserve more than just a can of sardines and a bag of rice. We deserve real preparedness and actual protection.

As Typhoon Uwan enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility, preparation and awareness become our strongest defenses. Each storm reminds us not only of natureโ€™s force but also of our capacity to stay vigilant and united.

Let us take every precautionโ€”secure our essentials, stay informed through PAGASA updates, and check on those around us. Preparedness is not panic; it is a form of care.

May we all remain safe and resilient in the days ahead. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
