đź“–Gospel Reading: Luke 7:11-17
Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. Near the gate of the town, there was a funeral procession: a dead man, the only son of his mother, who was a widow. A large crowd was with her. When Jesus saw her, He was moved with compassion and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you: rise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us,” and “God has visited his people.”
🌼Reflection / Meaning
• Compassion in action. Jesus doesn’t just feel sorry; He acts. He goes to the widow, touches the coffin, speaks life — He restores. Even when all seems beyond hope, His compassion brings renewal.
• Hope for the widow. She had lost her only son; socially and emotionally she was in deep pain, perhaps without support. Jesus honours her pain and restores what was lost. This shows God’s care especially to those marginalized, grieving, or in despair.
• The power over death. This is a foreshadowing of the ultimate power Jesus has — to bring life out of death. It reminds us that in Him there is resurrection, transformation, and new beginnings — even when all seems lost.
• Faith that bears witness. The people who witnessed this miracle were filled with awe, and their response was praise and belief: “a prophet has arisen… God has visited His people.” True encounters with Jesus move us beyond curiosity to worship and mission.
