CARDINALS LEAD NCAA SEASON 101 TIPOFF 🏀⛹

Ushering in a new century of competition, the Senior Men’s Basketball Tournament will officially open on October 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Last season’s Final Four squads to clash in the opening day showdowns, following the league’s opening ceremony.

Under the new format, host and defending champion Mapúa University Cardinals will begin their title defense against the fourth-placed Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates. Meanwhile first runner-up De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde Blazers look to reignite their rivalry with second runner-up San Beda University Red Lions in a fiery double-header.

The home-based squad is still led by King Cardinal Clint Escamis alongside JC Recto, Cyrus Cuenco, and Yam Concepcion. New faces Icee Callangan, Cyril Gonzales, and Cyrus Nitura will make their NCAA debut with the team.

The Mapúa Cardinal Singers (MCS), representing Mapúa University, is among the country's delegates in the second Thailand International Choral Festival (Thai ICF) at the Thailand Cultural Centre which began last August 31 and will conclude on September 4.

MU's resident choir group will participate in categories B4: Folksong and A4: Mixed Youth Choir.

The Thai ICF was founded by the Thailand Choral Association in 2024. This year, in collaboration with Bandung Choral Society, the festival aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of choral music against the backdrop of Thailand's vibrant cultural heritage.

JUST IN: Mapúan alumni, Engr. Lara Isobel E. Valladolid (85.36%), Engr. Donne Romir H. Arenal (84.18%), Engr. Al Dominic C. Gatlabayan (82.67%), and Engr. Audrey Lei B. Pike (81.61%) ranked first, second, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the August 2025 Sanitary Engineers Computer-Based Licensure Examination.

Mapúa University is also named as the sole top performing school, producing 18 passers with 94.74% passing rate. The national passing rate is 52.00%

Those interested may apply to the creatives, logistics, or production committees and must submit all required materials on or before September 1, 2025.

Mapúa University is the host school of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 101.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN 🏀⛹️

Kicking off the new collegiate basketball season, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Philippines officially released the two brackets for the Senior Men’s Basketball Tournament following a drawing of lots held earlier today, August 29, with host school and defending champions Mapúa University (MU) Cardinals set to compete in Group A of the campaign.

Accompanying the MU Cardinals are the third runner-up Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, while Group B is led by first runner-up De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Blazers and second runner-up San Beda University Red Lions.

The new tournament format, spearheaded by MU Management Committee representative Mr. Melchor Divina, was designed to boost audience interest, particularly during the playoff stage, as the NCAA seeks to elevate excitement and engagement among fans.

The same bracket will be used for the juniors' division later on in the season.

The Cardinales Folklorico de Mapúa (CFDM) put on a celebration titled "Pista sa Mapúa: Tagpo sa Panahon," showcasing various Mapúan talents highlighting the culture of the Philippines through a series of performances at the Intramuros Campus Gymnasium on August 19.

Traditional Filipino dances such as Subli, Lapay Bantigue, Bulaklakan, Karatong, Pandanggo sa Ilaw Oasiwas, Pasigin, Binasuan, and Tinikling filled the stage. Moreover, guest performers Mapúa XDC, NEXUS, and Mapua DanceCom also joined the celebration sprinkling modernity in the cultural celebration, while the Mapúa Cardinal Singers serenaded the crowd with their classic renditions.

Aside from performances, the event also consisted of short video documentaries that showcased the stories behind the dances, shining a spotlight on unique Filipino heritage.

Last August 18, Mapúa University, led by the Mapúa Campus Ministry, received the sacred image of the Queen and Patroness of Intramuros, Nuestra Señora de la Consolación y Correa as part of this year's Dalaw Consuelo for Mapúa University as part of the spiritual preparation for the upcoming Fiesta Intramuros in September. The visit is a part of the Dalaw Consuelo observances to visit the four Intramuros-based academic institutions.

The Patroness' arrival was welcomed with the Rites of Reception and a Holy Mass at the Sta. Rita de Cascia Chapel. The chapel's doors were open for the community to offer prayers during the duration of Her visit until August 26.

Later on, a Farewell Mass was conducted on the visitation's last day, August 26. The image has since been transferred to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran on August 27.

Weaving innovation and creativity across the fields of architecture, industrial design, and interior design, the United Architects of the Philippines Students Auxiliary - Mapúa University Chapter (UAPSA Mapua Chapter) hosted this year's UAPSA Summit, "Threads of Tomorrow: Weaving Visions into Design," at the Intramuros Campus Gymnasium last August 18.

The first portion of the event consisted of talks from companies such as Soar Design Co, Pocari Sweat, Vision Arch, Crown Pipe, Pino, and Nippon Paint.

Following talks from established companies in the industry, career professionals led coffee table talks in three sessions. The first session, "Roots and Relevance: Tracing the Threads of Filipino Design," explores the contexts of how present designs came to be which featured Ar. Angelo Mañosa and Ar. Rocksty James Kurt Bacungan.

The second session, "Interwoven Practice: How Collaboration Shapes Design Today," was joined by IDr. Rhia de Guzman, Ar. Delano Marzo, and Ar. IDr. Ma. Angelica Fajardo. The talk centered around how interior designers and architectures collaborate on creating designs.

While IDr. Whilhelmina Garcia, Ar. Nicholai David Go, and Ar. Haruki Takashima tackled the relevance of addressing challenges of an ever-changing world and how design can be a tool in shaping a better and more resilient future in the third session, "Pagbuo ng Kinabukasan: Designing for a Resilient and Evolving World."

Throughout the day, expos by invited partners were set up and exhibits showcasing Mapúans' works were displayed in the event.
