National Service Training Program Symposium:
Empowering Change for Sustainable Peace and Creation Care
On September 6, 2025, students from the National Service Training Program (NSTP)โCivic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) gathered at the St. Columban Arts Center for a symposium themed "From Crisis to Care: Building Sustainable Solutions, Inspiring Action for Peace with Creation."
The purpose of the event was to bring together students from various courses to discuss and explore sustainable solutions to compelling environmental and social issues. The theme highlighted the importance of caring for the planet and promoting peace in the face of crises.
The symposium started with inspiring opening remarks from Divine Grace Balayo, College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS) Representative. This was followed by two esteemed speakers who shared their expertise and insights, inspiring students to take action.
In the first topic, Dr. Mary Ann S. Dagunan, PhD, delivered an engaging discussion on "Understanding the Crises: The Importance of Environmental Conservation." She highlighted the critical need for conservation and showed students just how serious the consequences of environmental damage can be. Dr. Dagunan's expertise provided a deeper understanding of the complex challenges we face.
Next, Sem. John Philip P. Palacios presented with an energizing talk on "Inspiring Action." He emphasized the importance of translating knowledge into tangible efforts. He encouraged students to become part of the solution, and his presentation served as a call to action, motivating attendees to make a positive impact in their communities.
This program underscored the importance of integrating service and training in the development of students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become responsible students and leaders. By fostering a sense of community and social responsibility, the symposium sought to empower students to make a positive impact in their communities. The knowledge and inspiration gained there were the first steps toward building a future where the KCC Community contributes to sustainable solutions and a more peaceful community.
The symposium shaped up to be a transformative experience, providing KCCians with valuable insights and opportunities for personal and professional growth. By coming together to explore solutions and inspire action, this event was poised to leave a lasting impact on both the participants and the communities they serve.
