๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐๐ช๐ฆ | KCC Holds Drug Symposium Empowering Youth to Stand Against Substance Abuse
Kabankalan Catholic College, Inc. (KCC) gathered all NSTP students this November 15, 2025 at the St. Columban Arts Center for a drug awareness symposium centered on the theme โYouth in Service: Strengthening Communities Against the Drugs Menace.โ The event supports UN SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and UN SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), highlighting the schoolโs commitment to forming responsible and informed young citizens.
The symposium aimed to help students better understand the realities of drug abuse and how it affects individuals, families, and entire communities. Many young people begin substance use with what seems โsmallโโcigarettes, alcohol, or ma*****naโyet these often become the starting point of deeper addiction. In the Philippines, the most commonly abused drugs remain shabu and ma*****na, both of which have long-lasting physical, mental, and social consequences.
Students were also introduced to the classification of drugs, including stimulants, narcotics, depressants, hallucinogens, and inhalants, as well as their natural or synthetic origins. The speaker emphasized how addiction slowly reshapes a personโs life, affecting their work or studies, their communication with others, and even their appearance and behavior.
The talk was delivered by PCMS Mary June P. Fuentes from the Kabankalan City Police Stationโs Police Community Relations office. With her experience in the field, she provided real-life insights and clear explanations that helped students understand not only the dangers of drugs but also the importance of early prevention and community involvement.
More than a mandatory NSTP activity, the symposium served as a reminder that the fight against drug abuse begins with awareness. By educating the youth, KCC hopes to empower them to make healthier choices, support their peers, and take part in building safer, stronger communities.
