Aklan 1st District Congressman Jess Marquez has finally broken his silence on the reported "withdrawal" of San Miguel Holdings Corporation Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang from the proposed Boracay Bridge project.
In an interview with Todo Komentaryo on Radyo Todo, hosted by veteran journalist Jujet Reyes, Marquez confirmed that a meeting with Ang did take place. Defending his partymates, Marquez underscored, βIn the interest of fairness and truth, what Gov. Joen and Cong. Joeben shared [with the stakeholders] was both true and correct.β
However, Marquez introduced a new twist to the ongoing narrative, revealing that Ang has not completely shut the door on the project.
According to the lawmaker, the tycoon hinted that the bridge could still become a reality in the future, even if it does not happen during his own lifetime.
Marquez quoted Ang as saying: βAlam ko na nag-o-oppose ang mga stakeholders, LGUs, and community, so sige, hindi ko muna itutuloy ang project. Pero baka naman in the next 10, 15, or 20 years, kapag iba na ang namumuno sa mga stakeholders at mga officials diyan [sa Aklan], baka at that time pwede na silang pumayag.β
(βI know the stakeholders, LGUs, and the community oppose it, so fine, I wonβt push through with the project for now. But perhaps in the next 10, 15, or 20 years, when there is a new set of leaders and stakeholders in Aklan, they might finally agree to it.β)
