On August 7, 2026, the SJSKI family gathered to celebrate the first Friday mass of August held at the school gymnasium.

Josephians, faculty members, SCA members, and altar servers gathered as the monthly mass was celebrated by Father Charlie Magne G. Buyayo. In his homily, he mentioned the sacred heart of Jesus and the presences of God. He then related it to academic success.

He stated that โ€˜As christians, we need to live according to the heart of Jesus and live according to the purity of the Holy Maryโ€ฆThe sacred heart of Jesus teaches us self giving love.โ€™ He noted that self-love contributes to academic success through developing positive student conduct. Moreover, he said that โ€˜recognising the presence of the lord is important because success without Christ is empty.โ€™

The mass culminated with the concluding rites followed by the final blessing. Together with the SCA members and faculty members, the students sang the final song.

Last Friday, July 31, 2026, the science club conducted a clean up drive within the surroundings of our school and parish to collect and properly dispose of litter, helping the area become cleaner and safer.

The clean up drive was initiated by the science club members to continue what the SSC has started, to maintain cleanliness. The activity focused on preserving tidiness around the school and church campus through proper waste collection and disposal.

According to the club, the clean up drive was also conducted to support the theme "Josephians: Stewards of God's creation", which refers to the responsibility of people to protect, preserve, and care for God's creation. Moreover, their act of commitment to the environment was aimed to set an example and remind everyone to be responsible about the environment.

Trash remains one of the major environmental concerns worldwide, with tons of municipal solid waste generated each year, a figure expected to increase as the global population grows. Plastic waste can take decades or even centuries to break down, eventually fragmenting into microplastics that contaminate soil and water and pose risks to wildlife and human health. Improper disposal and open burning of waste also release greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants, contributing to environmental degradation. Activities like the clean up drive by the Science club help promote proper waste segregation and responsible waste disposal practices among students and the community.

The school hopes that the activity will encourage students to segregate their trash and reduce litter among the streets.

On August 1, 2026, UP hopefuls gathered at the DepEd Division Office of Lagawe for the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).

A queue formed outside the examination area as many applicants arrived at the examination site early, some accompanied by their parents, eager to take the challenging entrance examination.

At around 6:30 A.M., examinees were ushered into their assigned wings, where facilitators first explained the instructions and reminders for the test. Once the start signal was given, the rooms fell into silence as students focused on answering each question.

After hours of reading, solving, and shading, the morning examination finally concluded at around 11:30 A.M., the applicants then were guided out of the examination rooms, relieved to have completed the test and ready to rest and decompress from the stressful examination.

Originally, the schedule was intended only for one session but there were more walk-in applicants who arrived later in the morning. Seeing their large number, the UPCAT facilitators prepared an afternoon session for the second batch. After a six hour long test, examines happily left the examination room. Before departing, they joined their friends, took memorable photos, and chatted their way home.

But, the story doesnโ€™t end there. On August 2, 2026, applicants who fell last in line for the last session found their way to Nueva Viszcaya State University, Bayombong. They werenโ€™t promised a slot but because of determination, they showed up full of hope and prayer.

Luckily, they secured a test permit and were able to shade their own answer sheet. Thanks to their perseverance, their first step to the next level of education is accomplished.

On July 30, 2026, hundreds of people attended the funeral mass of Sir. Aldwayne B. Dulnuan, an Ifugao Pilot and Philippine Navy Officer Candidate who died in training at Zambalez.

In the afternoon, around 1:39 PM, the funeral procession that composed of a military navy band followed by the deceasedโ€™s friends and families arrived at Saint Joseph Parish. After settling within the Parish grounds, a moment of silence was observed as the pallbearers lifted his coffin to the church where it was blessed with holy water by the presiding priest Rev. Fr. Charlie Magne G. Buyayo. The choir sang their hymn indicating the beginning of the funeral mass.

When the mass ended, families and friends started sharing their memories and moments spent with the late Aldwayne B. Dulnuan. They imparted messages filled with strong emotions and grievances. Afterwards, his immediate family began the final tribute by placing flowers on his coffin. Following them was his extended family, friends, neighbours, team mates, people of the community, and more. Tears roll down faces as each bid their last goodbye to him. Because to them, he was not only seen as a son and a good brother but as a man respected by the community.

As they slowly close his coffin, people gathered outside and wait as they lift him once again into the hearse. In silence, people left and followed after the band leading the procession to his burial site.

The parish community came together to celebrate this year's Palay Day Thanksgiving Mass, a Eucharistic celebration that reflected faith, the community's tradition of thanksgiving, and gratitude for the blessings of a fruitful harvest. Held at 8:30 a.m., the only Mass scheduled for the day was presided over by Rev. Fr. Charlie Magne G. Buyayo

The church was filled with people who gathered to take part in the annual celebration. The readers were dressed in traditional Ifugao attire, a visual reminder of the community's rich cultural heritage woven into the Thanksgiving celebration. Meanwhile, the Tuwali dialect was used throughout the liturgy, highlighting the community's commitment to preserving its language and culture within worship.

Following the entrance song, Rev. Fr. Charlie Magne G. Buyayo walked around the church to bless the congregation before the Mass continued. The liturgical music was led by the BEC POB 2 Choir, whose hymns accompanied the different parts of the celebration.

As part of the Thanksgiving Mass, parishioners presented their offerings, which included rice grains, crops, and live chickens. These offerings reflected the purpose of Palay Day as a celebration of thanksgiving and an opportunity for the faithful to offer back a portion of what they have received.

During the homily, delivered entirely in Tuwali, Fr. Charlie reminded the congregation to leave behind the wrong things they are doing and to choose a better way of life. He also emphasized that offering is more than a traditionโ€”it is a way of giving back to God for the blessings He continues to bestow upon His people.

Through the participation of the faithful, the use of the Tuwali language, and the presentation of traditional offerings, this year's Palay Day once again highlighted the connection between faith, gratitude, and the community's cultural heritage. The celebration served as a reminder that thanksgiving is expressed not only through words but also through acts of generosity and a commitment to live according to God's teachings.
