Lake Sebu, a scenic gem in South Cotabato, Philippines, grapples with a tough task: maintaining its thriving tilapia farms while ensuring the lake's long-term health. This once-abundant ecosystem faces a critical challenge of balancing economic benefits with environmental sustainability. For decades, tilapia cage culture has been the lifeblood of many residents in the area. The lake, with its vast expanse of deep water, seemed like the perfect environment for this type of aquaculture. However, recent years have witnessed a concerning trend: increasing frequency and severity of fish kills. This has raised serious concerns about the sustainability of the current practices and the future of the lake.

Experts point towards excessive fish cage density as a major culprit. The sheer number of cages, exceeding 5,000, contributes to the depletion of dissolved oxygen levels in the lake. This, coupled with the accumulation of waste from uneaten feed and fish excrement, disrupts the delicate ecological balance. The consequences are dire. Fish kills, locally known as "kamahong," not only devastate the livelihood of fish farmers but also threaten the biodiversity of the lake. The indigenous T'boli people, who have called this area home for generations, also see their traditional fishing practices impacted by the declining health of the lake.

Fortunately, solutions are taking root. Local authorities have paused fish cage operations to allow the lake to heal, while initiatives like "Oplan Linis" are tackling debris and promoting cleanliness. Additionally, exploring sustainable practices like fewer cages and eco-friendly feed offers hope for the future. The journey towards a healthy Lake Sebu is a complex one, requiring collaboration from various stakeholders. Fish farmers need support in transitioning to more sustainable practices, while the government must ensure proper regulations and enforcement. Ultimately, the future of Lake Sebu hinges on finding a way to achieve both economic prosperity and environmental well-being, ensuring a thriving ecosystem that benefits the community for generations to come.

March 5, 2024 – A direct line between China’s Xi Jinping and Philippine’s Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. wasn’t establish after a proposal of the Philippine side amid tensions of territorial disputes.
According to a report, Australia’s ABC journalist Sarah Ferguson directly interviewed and asked Marcos if he had a direct hotline with Xi that may help in easing the tensions on west Philippine Sea. This happened in the on-going state visit of Philippine president in Australia.
Marcos stated that he proposed the idea when he went to Beijing and visit the China’s president January last year, as a hotline ensuring that a message will send directly in both president. Unfortunately, it wasn’t established but there are several points of contact at ministerial level and sub-ministerial level.
Marcos was also asked about his stance if he prioritized to counter China’s growing military, but he only reiterated that his priority is to defend Philippine sovereignty, as per territorial conflict it can be resolve peacefully.

On March 4th, 2024, the vibrant streets of Bangkok's Soi Sukhumvit 11 witnessed a clash between two groups within the city's transgender community. Around 20 Filipino transgender women reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with four Thai transgender women at a local restaurant. One Thai woman sustained injuries, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.While the specific cause remains under investigation, local media reports suggest tensions had simmered between the groups for some time.

This incident marks the first instance of physical violence, raising concerns within the broader Thai transgender community.
Responding swiftly, police intervened to break up the fight and ensure public safety. All parties involved were questioned at the Lumphini Police Station, where authorities are piecing together the events leading up to the altercation. Additionally, immigration officials are verifying the travel documents of the Filipino individuals involved. News of the clash drew a crowd of anxious Thai transgender women to the police station. Seeking updates and expressing anxieties about their safety, they reportedly requested increased police presence in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This unfortunate event throws light on the multifaceted challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, even within marginalized groups. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fostering understanding and creating safe spaces for all, regardless of origin.

March 5 2024 – Armed Forces of the Philippines claimed the new policy amended by the Philippine National Police regarding civilians obtaining semi-automatic rifles will help country’s reserve force.
AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla stated said in a press briefing that the new policy will help the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) enjoining a lot reservist as preparation for Philippine External defense. She added that if carrying such fi****ms is not prohibited by the law and the owners are responsible, there would be no problem.
Semi-automatic rifles can be now obtained by civilians after PNP made some minor amendments in implementing rules and regularities in relation to Comprehensive fi****ms and ammunition act, that was done on last Monday. The policy gives an ordinary private citizen a privilege to own small arms with a caliber of 7.62 mm and below, provided such fi****ms are not capable of firing automatic burst of fire.
The said policy concerns Gunless Society of the Philippines. Norman Cabrera, President of the said group speculated that if the country follows the same gun culture in the US, then there is a possibility of mass shootings.
PNP Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo claimed that the public should nothing to worry as there were many safeguards or set of qualifications on the policy that civilians need to undergo and pass if they want to obtain the privilege of owning small fi****ms. One of the safeguards are: Filipino citizenship, legal age, employment, income tax return, police clearance, psychiatric and drug tests, as well as training.
