COLLEGE NEWS | CoEd celebrates EDUCasadyahan 2025

“Being invictus doesn't mean you never fall, it means you always rise,” said Prof. Laurence M. Lachica.

The College of Education (CoEd) celebrated EDUCasadyahan 2025 with the theme “COED: Celebrating our Enriching Diversity through Philippine Culture” held at the City Gymnasium 1, from October 29 to 30.

Events included were EDUCpaligsahan, Impromptu speech, Tagisan ng Talino, Cavalcade, and the search for CoEd King and Queen 2025.

EDUCasadyahan is a two-day activity that highlights the creativity, talent, and unity of the COEd community through a series of cultural performances and competitions that showcase the richness of Filipino heritage.

Ericka Bautista from the BPEd program was crowned as the COEd Queen 2025, and Jay Scotly Sitchon from the BSEd Mathematics earned the title of CoEd King 2025.

Present also at the event were Dr. Maylin M. Tongcua, OIC-Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Trudy C. Cerbo, Dean of the College of Education; Prof. Laurence M. Lachica, Head of the Office of Students Affairs and Services; judges namely Dr. Jayson Salmorin; Prof. Nicholas Galabasa; Hon. Karen Aguirre; Mylene Gonzaga; Charmaine Mait; Loi Bryan Verona; Armel John Gomez; April Joy Arroyo; Tejie Parcon; and Dr. Johnny Juadines; CoEd Program Heads; Faculty; and students.

COLLEGE NEWS | LCCC receives Green School Excellence Award at 2025 Ecoluminaries

La Carlota City College (LCCC) was honored for its exemplary commitment to environmental sustainability, securing the prestigious Green School Excellence Award at the 2025 Ecoluminaries event held at SMX Convention Center Bacolod City, yesterday, October 29.

The Ecoluminaries is the annual celebration of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) through the Abanse Negrense. The event is devoted to recognizing and honoring individuals and institutions in the province that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in environmental conservation and protection.

The award was presented by Negros Occidental Governor Hon. Eugenio Jose "B**g" Lacson and received by College President Dr. Larnie Sam Tabuena, Community Extension Coordinator Prof. Limuel C. Solomon Jr., and Office of Student Affairs and Services Head Prof. Laurence M. Lachica.

COLLEGE NEWS | LCCC participates in CHED's Regional Seminar-Workshop

La Carlota City College (LCCC) joined the seminar-workshop on "Building the Blueprint for Creative Works Excellence in Higher Education Institutions" with the theme "Global Pathways: Pioneering Creative Works Anchored on the SDGs for Internationalization" held at the Park Inn Hotel, Iloilo City, October 27 to 28.

The two-day seminar was organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) VI and CHEDRO XVIII–Negros Island Region, in collaboration with the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST).

The event highlighted the importance of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and internationalization strategies into academic and creative research frameworks. It also aimed to equip academic leaders and research directors with the knowledge and policy frameworks to strengthen institutional creative works, foster global partnerships, and align initiatives with CHED’s internationalization goals.

This engagement underscores LCCC's commitment to academic advancement, international collaboration, and the promotion of creativity and innovation within higher education. Through active participation in CHED-led initiatives, the institution continues to uphold its vision of producing globally competitive and socially responsible graduates.

LCCC representatives were Dr. Mary Hope Q. Ayson, Dr. Sharon L. Apohen, Dr. Trudy C. Cerbo, and Dr. Ma. Quincy D. Dones.

COLLEGE NEWS | LCCC conducts Mental Health Awareness Seminar

"Caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. Let's build a world where it's okay to talk about struggles," said Aifer Kristian A. Sumbang.

La Carlota City College Student Guidance and Placement Center, and Gender and Development (GAD), in collaboration with La Carlota Primary Care Facility I, convened a Mental Health Awareness Seminar at the Graduate School Library LCCC-Main Campus today, October 29.

Aifer Kristian A. Sumbang, Mental Health Coordinator and Guest Speaker, discussed mental health, its importance, common challenges, techniques for stress management, when to seek professional help, ways to support others, and resources and support for mental health. He also talked about mental health facts, risk factors for su***de, protective factors, su***de red flags, ways to start conversations about su***de, and what to do.

Dr. Hermie Alexander D. Sia, Medical Officer IV, tackled anxiety, stress, and coping mechanisms, including stress types, the stress curve, ways Filipinos cope with stress, how to support someone who is stressed and anxious, and behavioral health—covering 7 warning signs. He also highlighted some quotes related to mental health and left a message saying, "Self-love is not selfish."

The event adjourned with closing remarks, expressions of gratitude, and tokens of appreciation presented to the guest speakers by Dr. Mary Hope Q. Ayson, Vice President for Administration & HR; Dr. Doreen R. Bandiez, Guidance Counselor; and Laurence M. Lachica, Head of the Office for Student Affairs and Services.

COLLEGE NEWS | LCCC receives award during ALCU National Conference 2025

La Carlota City College was awarded a Certificate of Membership in Good Standing during the Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU) National Conference 2025, with the theme, “From Local to Global: Harnessing the Power of LCUs for Sustainable Development,” held at The Heritage Hotel Manila, October 27-28.

Among the 174 local colleges and universities (LCUs) in the country, LCCC was one of the 65 higher education institutions that were awarded. The certificate recognizes LCUs that have duly adhered to the specifications for both the original and renewal of affiliation with ALCU Philippines. A monumental event that marks another institutional milestone—a testament to its continued pursuit of academic excellence, institutional advancement, sustainable development, and its commitment to ensuring accessible tertiary education. The award was received by Dr. Larnie Sam A. Tabuena, College President, and Dr. Maylin M. Tongcua, OIC of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Being in Good Standing with ALCU Philippines means the LCCC will continue to avail the rights and privileges under the aforementioned organization, one of which is the UniFAST Scholarship program.

COLLEGE NEWS | LCCCians partake in Peace and Security Awareness Symposium

“Peace and Security is not just a responsibility, it’s the duty of every Filipino,” MAJ Ceriaco M. Deni-ay stated.

Seven hundred thirty-nine ROTC and CWTS students of La Carlota City College participated in the Peace and Security Awareness Symposium held at the LCCC covered court - Cubay Campus yesterday, October 26.

The event aimed to equip the participants with knowledge about pressing issues related to peace and order, and to raise awareness regarding the recruitment of CPP-NDF-NPA to ensure the safety of the youth by inviting former NPA members to facilitate the talks and introducing Executive Order 70, a government policy that institutionalizes the “Whole-of-Nation Approach” to end local communist armed conflict and initiate peace talks.

Present also at the event were NSTP Coordinator Prof. Aileen P. Balbon; Asst. Comdt. SSG Renniel V. Advincula; Msg. Arnel Francisco; Sgt. Aaron B. Selda; Sgt. Rolando V. Leones; Sgt. In light of the recent volcanic eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, the Office of the College President issued a directive declaring the shift to online learning of all classes in La Carlota City College (LCCC) today, October 25 until further notice.
