📢 𝙒𝙑𝙎𝙐 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙨 𝙒𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜-𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙡

The West Visayas State University College of Dentistry conducted “A Writeshop on Teaching-Learning Research Proposal” for its faculty members as part of the college’s effort to strengthen research capacity and promote scholarly writing.
The activity featured Mr. Aris C. Larroder, Editor-in-Chief of the WVSU Research Journal, as the resource speaker. He guided the participants in developing sound research proposals focused on teaching and learning innovations.

The session aimed to help faculty members refine their research ideas, improve proposal structure, and align their outputs with publication standards. Participants were also introduced to strategies for identifying relevant topics, writing effective research frameworks, and preparing manuscripts for submission.

Through this initiative, the College of Dentistry continues to support its faculty in advancing research productivity and contributing to the university’s growing culture of academic excellence.

From joining the editorial board on October 18, 2023, to stepping up as Editor-in-Chief on September 21, 2024, Sir Aris C. Larroder has led the WVSU Research Journal with fresh ideas and dedication.

In just one year, he has guided the journal into new ground, including the launch of its first-ever podcast edition in June 2025, making research more accessible to a wider audience.

📌 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘍𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴:
This grounded theory research explored how Grade 10 learners received and verified knowledge during the COVID-19 crisis when making socio-scientific decisions.

👥 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴:
Twenty-five learners from a rural community were interviewed and engaged through drawing activities and field observations.

📊 𝘒𝘦𝘺 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴:
Knowledge was received through auditory and visual senses.

Sources included social media, families, schools, communities, and local government.

Verification involved cross-checking multiple sources and assessing reliability.

Emotional responses affected decision-making.

🎯 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵:
The study developed a Theory on Knowledge Reception and Verification in Socio-scientific Decision-Making, showing how cultural, contextual, and emotional factors shaped learner responses to the pandemic.

📌 𝓓𝓲𝓭 𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓚𝓷𝓸𝔀?

The West Visayas State University Research Journal began its journey with the release of Volume 1, Issue 1 in June 2012. Since then, it has been shaped by the leadership of only six Editors-in-Chief, each leaving a distinct and lasting impact on its direction, quality, and academic reputation.

𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙀𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙤 𝙎. 𝙏𝙖𝙣 (2012–2013) – As the journal’s founding Editor-in-Chief, he oversaw its historic launch and the publication of its first two volumes, establishing the standards and framework for scholarly publishing at WVSU.

𝙀𝙡𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙖 𝙇. 𝘼𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙤 (2013–2017)– Strengthened editorial policies, broadened the scope of published research, and upheld consistency in quality across four years of continuous publication.

𝙅𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙧 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙔. 𝙁𝙞𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙨 (2017–2019) – Introduced innovations in editorial management, optimized peer-review processes, and reinforced the journal’s commitment to rigorous academic standards.

𝘽𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙮 𝘿. 𝙂𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙤 (2019-2020) –Provided firm leadership during a transitional phase, ensuring the seamless continuation of publication schedules and maintaining high-quality outputs.

𝙍𝙮𝙖𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙚𝙡 𝙁. 𝙊𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙤 (2021–2024) – Published his first issue in 2020 prior to his formal appointment as Editor-in-Chief in 2021. He steered the journal through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, successfully transitioning to digital platforms to maintain accessibility and readership.

𝘼𝙧𝙞𝙨 𝘾. 𝙇𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧 (2024–𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩) – Currently leading the journal into a new era of innovation, including the launch of its first-ever podcast edition in June 2025, further bridging academic research with broader audiences.

From print beginnings to digital expansion and now multimedia outreach, the WVSU Research Journal stands as a dynamic platform for scholarly exchange—continuously adapting to the evolving needs of the academic community and the public it serves.

Attracting Polarities: Narratives of Diverse Experiences from People Living with HIV

📖 “𝘼𝙩𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨: 𝘼 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮” by Esther May Montemayor, Allan M. Manaloto, Charry Jane P. Robles, Jaymie M. Gutierrez, Carl Edrian E. Lindong, Maxine Agatha H. Marquez, Gabriel Ashley Pericas, Mykaela Hilda S. Vallesteros, and Rossinie T. Pasco (Bulacan State University, City of Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines) explores how the lived experiences of individuals with HIV impact their mental health.

📌 Study Focus:
This qualitative research examined the personal narratives of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Central Luzon, focusing on how their experiences shape their mental well-being.

👥 Participants:
Individuals aged 21–70, all undergoing antiretroviral therapy, interviewed through a descriptive phenomenological approach with confidentiality ensured via Unique Identifier Codes.

📊 Key Findings:
Mental health is influenced by more than just the HIV diagnosis itself

Two major themes emerged:
1️⃣ Drawbacks and Constraints: Realities of Living with HIV
2️⃣ Two Steps Forward: Illuminating the Positive Aspects of Living with HIV

Highlights both challenges and resilience among PLHIV

🎯 Health Insight:
The findings emphasize the need for holistic support systems addressing both physical treatment and mental health care for PLHIV.
