44 𝓥𝓮𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓜𝓮𝓭𝓲𝓬𝓲𝓷𝓮 𝓖𝓻𝓪𝓭𝓾𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓼 𝓗𝓸𝓷𝓸𝓻𝓮𝓭 𝓪𝓽 𝓑𝓢𝓤’𝓼 100𝓽𝓱 𝓒𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓶𝓮𝓷𝓽 𝓔𝔁𝓮𝓻𝓬𝓲𝓼𝓮𝓼

Celebrating a century of academic service and excellence, forty-four students from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) were formally conferred the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine during the 100th Commencement Exercises of Benguet State University (BSU), held on June 26, 2025, at the BSU Gymnasium.

The ceremony, which ran from 8 a.m. to 12 noon under clear and sunny skies, carried the theme “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Eco-Cultural Responsibility, and Serving with Commitment.” It featured traditional academic rites, including the processional, entrance of colors, doxology, and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the BSU Hymn.

Leading the presentation of graduates was Dr. Maureen De Vera, who introduced the 44 veterinary medicine graduates before they were officially confirmed as degree holders.

The confirmation was followed by the words of gratitude, a pledge of loyalty, and the induction of graduates into the BSU Alumni Association.

Moreover, the College of Veterinary Medicine continues to uphold its commitment to producing professionals who are not only equipped with clinical and technical knowledge but also with a strong sense of eco-cultural responsibility. The Class of 2025 is expected to enter various sectors–animal health, public service, research, and environmental conservation.

The ceremony concluded with the exit of colors, marking the formal transition of the graduates from students to alumni–carrying with them the knowledge, values, and purpose fostered at Benguet State University.

On June 25, 2025, the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) marked a significant milestone with its inaugural hooding ceremony, honoring the graduating class of 2025, named Veritas Lux Mea, which translates to "the truth is my light." Comprising 44 dedicated graduands, this event not only celebrated their academic achievements but also underscored the inspiring motto that emphasizes the importance of truth as a guiding principle in their future careers as veterinarians.

The ceremony began with a solemn processional, as graduates made their way to the stage for the ceremonial imposition of hoods, signifying their transition into the ranks of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and pride as the faculty and families gathered to witness this momentous occasion.

Among the highlights was a heartfelt address from the esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Syeda Aisha Dy Hussain, who shared her own experiences as a veterinary medicine student.

Dr. Hussain delivered an empowering message, reminding the graduates that with their new degrees comes not only a responsibility to care for animals, but also the role of being a supportive voice and source of comfort to those they serve. "We are not just doctors," she said, "but also heroes in unseen ways."

The program also featured a surprise awards segment, recognizing student excellence in critical veterinary disciplines, including Best in Anatomy, Physiology, Zootechniques, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Medicine, and Surgery. These accolades highlighted the dedication and hard work that each student has put into their veterinary education.

Emotional moments unfolded as students expressed their gratitude through a heartfelt homage to their parents, followed by touching tributes to their teachers and mentors. Tears flowed as acknowledgments of love and support filled the room, reinforcing the strong sense of community and family that has developed within the college.

The ceremony culminated with the pinning of the Junior Clinician, a tradition symbolizing the passing of the torch from Senior Clinicians to their juniors. The seniors bestowed their blessings, encouraging the newest members of the clinical team to carry the legacy of the college's four pillars while embracing the guiding motto, Veritas Lux Mea.

The first-ever hooding ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the class of 2025 but also set a heartfelt tone for their journey ahead. As these new veterinarians step into the world, they carry with them the light of truth and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of animals and their owners.

𝖬𝖺’𝖺𝗆 𝖢𝗋𝗂𝗌/ 𝖬𝖺’𝖺𝗆 𝖡 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝗁𝖾𝗋 4 𝖽𝖾𝖼𝖺𝖽𝖾𝗌 𝗈𝖿 𝗌𝖾𝗋𝗏𝗂𝖼𝖾.

On April 11, 2025, the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) held a farewell party for Dr. Criselda Battad, for her upcoming retirement. Dr. Criselda Battad, a pillar of CVM, was adorned by her colleagues and her students. Who loyally served Benguet State University, starting from an instructor until she became a professor. She was once a chairperson of the Research and Extension, a Department Chair of the Paraclinicals, college secretary, and a college dean, up to being an adviser to the Venerable Knight Veterinarians-Venerable Lady Veterinarians (VKV-VLV) Indeed, the university, the college, and every personnel were indeed witnesses to her successful steps.

During her farewell party, faculty and staff gave a short message to Dr. Battad. The room was filled with reminisced memories from priceless encounters to heart-warming lessons. Tears of longing also joined, since most were not yet ready for Dr. Battad to leave the 4 pillars of the college. One remarkable message from Ma’am Recy, who became truly close to Dr. Battad, was “goodbye class record, hello venture”.

Dr. Criselda Battad will always be a part of the CVM family, and she will always be welcome, for she has built a family inside the college, and all her lessons will be nurtured and appreciated. Her name will be passed on because she has done nothing but be a great teacher, mentor, friend, and a mother to her colleagues, friends, and students.

𝙰𝚛𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝟿: 𝚁𝚊𝚋𝚒𝚎𝚜 𝙰𝚠𝚊𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝙼𝚘𝚗𝚝𝚑

Rabies remains one of the major public health concerns that our community faces, which is why, with March being the month for Rabies awareness, all pet owners are constantly reminded of their responsibilities and commitment to their beloved pets. Citizens are also called to be vigilant and to uphold animal welfare in the community.

Although mostly seen in wild animals, all mammalian species are susceptible to infection. Our pets and livestock, however domesticated, are still vulnerable to infection especially those that are not vaccinated, and are living in areas where disease is prevalent. This serves as a reminder for us to be responsible pet owners and have our pets immunized with yearly boosters as mandated by law under both Republic Act No. 8485 (Animal Welfare Act of 1998) and Republic Act No. 9482 (Anti-Rabies Act of 2007).

From renowned researchers to celebrities turned doctors, these women of passion and intellect have proven that the sky is the limit if you persevere hard enough. Not only have they contributed to the general well-being of animals, but they have also shaped the future of Public health and food security.

Remember ladies, especially the aspiring future veterinarians, you are capable of great things beyond your wildest dreams, BABAE KA hindi basta babae lang.

𝓒𝓥𝓜 𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓼 𝓽𝓸 𝓥𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝓲𝓷 𝓑𝓢𝓤’𝓼 𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓢𝓹𝓸𝓻𝓽 𝓒𝓸𝓶𝓹𝓮𝓽𝓲𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷

The dance sport competition held at the BSU Closed Gym on March 14, 2025, gave various performances from various colleges, with the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) bringing their A-game and banging awards in the Latin and Standard categories.

CVM finished as the overall 2nd place champion in the Latin dance category, with impressive 2nd place finishes in the Cha-Cha-Cha and Rumba and a strong 1st place in the Jive. Meanwhile, CVM also displayed their versatility and skill by securing 3rd place in both the Tango and Quickstep in the Standard dance category. Their dedication and technical proficiency were evident in every move, earning them well-deserved recognition for their performances.

Mr. Hans Pascual and Ms. Deirdre Alfonso, the CVM dancesport coaches were proud of their dancers’ achievements, reflecting on the hard work that went into their preparation for both dance styles. It was truly fulfilling for them to watch their students perform so well in both dances despite a limited amount of time to practice. The dancers’ growth had been amazing to witness, and it was rewarding to see their efforts pay off with awards in both categories.

Ms. Obispo, another dancer on the CVM team, added that connection with a partner is vital in making a performance truly successful. In both styles, connection is everything. How you communicate through your movements and the bond you share with your partner is key to making the dance come alive.

As the event concluded, the CVM team celebrated their achievements with their coaches, looking forward to even greater success in future competitions. Their commitment to excellence in both dance styles has set a high standard for the next generation of dancers, and they continue to inspire with their passion and hard work.

CVM’s dancers also expressed their satisfaction with the results, highlighting the importance of teamwork and practice. Mr. Pascual, a first-time contender, credited their success to consistent practice. Practice truly makes it perfect. The team worked hard to refine their skills in Latin and Standard dances, and it was gratifying to see that effort pay off.

March 11, 2025, Benguet State University’s Debate Society hosted a session of their Deb Talks, this time with the title The Cost of Silence: Why Human Rights Matter in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Social Hall, with Atty. Jose Manuel ‘Chel Diokno’ as the guest speaker.

An exceptional lawyer and a Human rights advocate, Atty. Chel Diokno, highlighted the importance of why human rights exist, why it matters, and debunked the false narratives about it. For 36 years he has been defending human rights - with clients from all walks of life ranging from students, farmers, fishermen, and the natives (katutubo), hearing their stories and understanding their struggles. “The right to life is the most important right of all, as without it how can we enjoy our other rights, how can you attain your dreams in a country where there is no human rights?” - Atty. Diokno stated during his lecture, emphasizing its importance.

Atty. Diokno’s lecture aimed to inspire and empower the youth into active citizens of the country with a sense of dignity and purpose in upholding the foundation of the Philippine law, where rights (karapatan) and justice (katarungan) are built into the DNA of the Filipino community, therefore, impartiality must be for everyone.

On March 10, 2025, when the much-awaited Bleachers Gimmick of the BSU Intramurals 2025 was held at the BSU Closed Gymnasium, bringing together 13 colleges in a spectacular showcase of creativity, energy, and school spirit. The entire event became electrified with students cheering for their own respective teams, making it another of the most entertaining highlights of the intramurals.

One of the finest competitors in this contest has been the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), which presented a great routine that made them First Runner-Up. CVM’s performance was a testament to their dedication and exceptional ex*****on, earning them three awards, namely Best Visual Display, Best Musical Accompaniment, and Best Crowd Engagement

Their performance met with resounding applause from the faculty, staff, and students of CVM, showing great support and pride among their team. Their synchronized movements, creative concepts, and undeniable enthusiasm captured the audience's attention.
Having previously won the championship thrice, this win provides yet another jewel to add to CVM's crown of achievements in the Bleachers Gimmick. They may not be the champion this year, but their performance underlined that they remain a formidable competitor.

CVM’s spirit, togetherness, and excellence will always make them one of the BSU INTRAMURALS powerhouse. Just as they have become First Runner Up with the three awards they got, evidence of their hard work and resilience they put in. Eyes set on more competitions, CVM surely will come back stronger and fiercer next year!
