71ST DBHS-SLHS HOME COMING EVE

Part 7: The DAY before the BIG EVENT

Our Busiest but Happiest Day

What a day! From morning until night, everyone was on their feet, busy with their own tasks. We divided the work into committees โ€” Morning, Afternoon, and Evening Programs, Food, Logistics, Cooking,Purchasing, Sound & Lights, Mass, Tokens and Prizes, Golden Graduate Lunch, Parade, Traffic, Decorations, and even After-Cleaning.

Because the work was shared, each group could focus on their part instead of worrying about everything. And while all were busy, we made sure no one was left hungry โ€” meals and snacks were always ready.

Everything ran smoothly, and surprisingly, we didnโ€™t end up cramming or stressing, even if we had to go as far as Vizcaya just to find the perfect cakes for prizes.

The best part here is many batchmates showed up to help. No one complained about doing odd jobs. Everyone had smiles ๐Ÿ˜ƒ anxious, excited, but happy to be part of it all. We also decided to hire extra hands, and that was a wise move. It made our load lighter and gave us more energy to enjoy the moment.

Truly, it was our busiest day, but also one of the most joyful day of our lives. โค๏ธ

Part 6: PLANNING AND MEETINGS

Hosting the 71st DBHS Alumni Homecoming was no easy task. It took patience, teamwork, and a whole lot of dedication to rise to the challenge.

As early as January 2024, we already sat down with the Golden Batch, Batch 1974, over lunch to get their advice and guidance. They were so supportive and gladly accepted their roles. By March, our batch officially gathered, set up committees, and laid down our plansโ€”including fundraising ideas to keep the ball rolling.

April kicked off with raffle ticket selling at the plaza, while we also prepared for another big projectโ€”the Gotad Bike Race 4. By May, we secured the JnC Sound System, knowing how busy December schedules can get.

June tested our energy and teamwork, but it paid off! The bike race was a success, and we also drew the winners of our raffle. From July to August, planning became more intense. Meetings at APEX Autoshop went from monthly, to twice a month, to weekly for coordinators.

By September, we were in full swingโ€”rolling out invites, setting contests, and working with PNP, Barangay, BFP, Red Cross, and even Katbalan Book. October brought firewood reservations and food planning with our ever-reliable Kuya Adong. November was all about polishing the detailsโ€”what to order, where to order, who should order. Everything fell into place.

Then came Decemberโ€”the final stretch. Hunting down pigs for butchering gave us stress and laughs at the same time. It wasnโ€™t easy, and yes, tensions ran high, but true to our spirit as Batch 99โ€”we faced every challenge together.

In the end, what we built was more than just an event. It was a journey of teamwork, laughter, stress, patience, and joyโ€”proof that with unity, nothing is too hard for us to achieve. โค๏ธ

PART 5: Raffle

Our sponsorship for the 71st DBHS Alumni Homecoming has truly been a big challenge. Our target was โ‚ฑ1.7M, and we knew we had to work hard to get there. Thatโ€™s why we decided to organize a raffle.

The previous host batch set the bar high with a โ‚ฑ1M grand prize, and we asked ourselvesโ€”how can we match that and still keep people excited? Instead of one huge prize, we thought: why not have more winners? And it worked! Even though not all tickets were sold, we were able to raise an amazing โ‚ฑ1.3M!

What made it even more special is that we didnโ€™t force our batchmates to buy or sell a set number of tickets. Everyone just gave what they could. Some couldnโ€™t afford to buy for themselves but found ways to sell booklets during their free timeโ€”at town fiestas, during the Kulpi, or even while grilling BBQ at the plaza under the hot sun.

It wasnโ€™t easy. The lotto-style encoding took so much effortโ€”countless meetings, sleepless nights, and nonstop follow-ups. But with teamwork and one shared goal, we made it happen.

Now, we finally have the funds to start our plans โค๏ธ

Part 4: 4TH GOTAD AD IFUGAO MTB CHALLENGE

The 4th Gotad IMB Challenge wasnโ€™t just another biking event โ€“ it was the heart-pounding continuation of a tradition that riders across Luzon eagerly await each year. This race is part of the Ifugao Day celebration, a beloved tradition that paused only due to the pandemic. Historically organized by the IMB group, this this time, we took the reins, determined to make it even more memorable.

With unwavering confidence, we proposed the event to the PLGU, hopeful they would support us as co-organizers. We set the date, sent out invites to biking groups, and coordinated with the local barangays, eagerly waiting for the PLGU's funding approval.

Then, just two weeks before race day, we received unexpected news: the budget was no longer available but only the manpower. ๐Ÿ˜” ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ How could we possibly pull this off? ๐Ÿค” With only 14 days remaining, the situation seemed impossible. Would we have to cancel? The Ifugao Biking Groupโ€™s reputation was on the line, and bikers were already gearing up for the challenge.

In that moment of uncertainty, we didnโ€™t back down. We are Batch 99, and cancelling is never an option. Instead of letting the challenge defeat us, we rallied together. The task was monumental: raising over 100K in two weeks to cover food, snacks, race bibs, shirts, and all the necessary expenses. But we were undeterred. One of our race leaders tirelessly reached out to potential sponsors, working the phones and sending countless messages. Our efforts paid off โ€“ we secured 16 major sponsors, 18 minor sponsors, and additional pledges from our batchmates. We were back on track and filled with renewed energy!

Race day arrived, and it was nothing short of exhilarating. The event turned out to be the highlight of Gotad 2024. Riders from all over the region joined in, eager to conquer one of the most challenging tracks in the eventโ€™s history. It was a true test of grit and determination โ€“ and the bikers loved every moment of it.

As we geared up for future challenges, we realized that with resilience, unity, and a refusal to quit, we can overcome any obstacle. The 4th Gotad IMB Challenge wasnโ€™t just a race โ€“ it was a testament to the spirit of perseverance and teamwork that defines us the Batch '99 โค๏ธ.

Part 3: TRAIL RUN & MTB RACE

In 2023, we kicked off the year with two major IGPs that truly tested our limits: the Victory Trail Run in September, followed by the Bonifacio Trail Run and MTB Race just two months later in November.

Each event had its own incredible story. The Victory Trail Run was our debut into marketing, and we knew we had to make it something specialโ€”something better than any trail run the province had seen before. Even though the registration fee was higher than usual, it included a custom t-shirt, bib, snacks, and lunch, and the response was incredible! Sponsors lined up, and despite the rain, we exceeded our registration goals and came close to hitting our income target.

Riding on the success of the Victory Run, we didnโ€™t take a break. We dove straight into an even bigger challengeโ€”a combined bike and trail race in one epic event! Held on November 30, we called it the Bonifacio Race. Although securing enough sponsors was tough due to the tight timeline, our batchmates abroad came through, funding the prizes and making sure the event had everything it needed. As participants raced through stunning landscapes, they were blown away by the breathtaking views!

These two IGPs didnโ€™t come easy. They took an enormous amount of workโ€”especially when it came to route preparation and coordination with local barangays and government units. It meant months of tireless effort, long days, and a lot of cleaning up, but it was all worth it. The journey was challenging, yes, but incredibly rewarding.

And when it was all said and done? Pure joy! Once again, Batch 99 came together, pushed through, and proved that with teamwork, determination, and passion, we can achieve greatness. We've done it, and weโ€™re just getting started! ๐Ÿ† ๐Ÿ‘

Part 2: POP-UP STORES

We let go of our pride and humbly sold whatever we cook (arrozcaldo, guinataan, halo-halo, chicharap etc) to raise the funds we needed during the LMDC general assembly. We stayed up late during the RED CROSS Concert and Bugan n Wigan Beauty Pageant night selling drinks and chips. Mind you, we did the cooking, preparing, and reaching out to customers, all driven by a shared purpose. We faced the blistering heat during last year's Kulpi at the plaza, selling barbecue and raffle tickets without hesitation.

No opportunity to support our cause was too small or too difficult. Every sacrifice we made, we made together as a team, and every step brought us closer to our goal. โค๏ธ

Part 1 : IGP at the park

It all started with a simple goal: to host and celebrate with our alumni when the time comes. We didnโ€™t overthink it, we just wanted to give back and create an unforgettable experience, just like the batches before us. But dreams donโ€™t happen overnight, so we made sure to start early.

The key to making it all come together was planning ahead. Our journey began with one clear goal in mind, and to fund it, we launched our first Income Generating Project (IGP): Fit and Feast breakfast at the park, complete with a free Taebo session, on April 12, 2014. For just 99 pesos, we treated people to a buffet breakfast, relaxing at the plaza with loved ones and friends. It was the first-ever breakfast event at the parkโ€”and it was a huge success!

Fast forward 9 years, and we followed it up with another hit: Breakfast at the Park with Zumba on May 1, 2023. Both events proved that with dedication, planning, and a clear goal, anything is possible!

It may have taken a decade to bring our dream to life, but the journey made it all the more meaningful. Here's to planning ahead, staying focused, elevating an event and making memories along the way! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
