In a flavorful and festive showcase of Ilocano culinary pride, SM City Laoag successfully served a total of 1,150 Ilocos empanadas in what is now hailed as the largest empanada serving in Laoag City. The record-breaking event was one of the highlights of the SM City Laoag's Food Fest 2025, drawing in hundreds of mallgoers and food enthusiasts.

The event transformed the SM City Laoag Event Center into a vibrant hub of aroma, culture, and live performances, as empanadas were freshly served on a sun-shaped platform symbolizing the ‘Sunshine City’.

To create this feast, organizers used a staggering 1,150 eggs and approximately 40 kilograms of Ilocos longganisa, staying true to the authentic Ilocos empanada recipe that generations of Ilocanos have come to love.

The historic feat was made possible through the joint efforts of the following key partners:

Tropical Cyclone Update
8PM, 16 September 2025

Tropical depression Mirasol moves closer towards the Aurora-Isabela area.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, it was located 90 km southeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

Northern Ilocos Sur is also now placed under wind signal no. 1.

Mirasol maintained its strength of 55
kph and gustiness up to 70 kph. It continues to move northwestward at 25 kph.

It may make landfall over northern Aurora or Isabela Wednesday morning and traverse Northern Luzon northwestward.

The tropical depression will be over the Luzon Strait Thursday morning.

It may intensify into a tropical storm before exiting the Philippine area of responsibility in the afternoon or evening.
