LAPU-LAPU CITY, PhilippinesโIn celebration of the Math and Science Month Culmination, Lapulapu-Cebu International College (LCIC) invited 20 schools from across Region VII to participate in the LCIC Math & Science Olympiad, on top of hosting its first-ever ResearchLympics.
High school student representatives first tested their general knowledge on all things Math and Science in the Written Preliminary Examination, the first round, on the morning of the 30th. The chosen 20 participants, announced later at the SALC 2nd Floor Language Building, advanced to the Live-Stage Quiz Bowl (Round 2) in Tsuneishi Hall that afternoon, hosted by Maria Eliza Caรฑo and the Civil Engineering Council.
Round 2 consisted of easy, average, and difficult rounds, eliminating five from the original top 20 competitors in each round until the final five were left for the fierce and exciting Championship Round, consisting of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geometry, Calculus, and Algebra, from which the students had to each choose and answer.
After an intense battle between the participants, Noorsid Magandia of National University, Cebu Inc. secured his trophy and gold medal in the Champion Round, alongside a cash prize and a full-ride scholarship voucher to LCIC.
First runner-up was Nyte Flowers of San Carlos School of Cebu Inc., followed by Lexie Michaela Sumbise of Sisters of Mary School โ Girlstown as second runner-up, Ramon Ernest Kimhoko of San Carlos School of Cebu Inc. as the third runner-up, and finally, Isaiah Clart Lyndon Arendain of Nemesio-Epifania MHS-SHS as the fourth runner-up.
Simultaneously in the morning, research teams representing the Civil Engineering, Foreign Languages, and Physical Therapy departments went head to head presenting an array of research proposals, with the CE study on providing solution to foreigners in transit, entitled โProject NaviLCIC: A Multi-Lingual Transit AI-Assisted Navigation and Localized Fare Mapping System for LCIC International Students,โ earning the award for Best Poster.
The Physical Therapy Department, however, took home the crown with their thorough study on chronic back pain, โEffects of Core Stabilization Exercises on Health-related Quality of Life and Back-related Body Perception among Filipino Undergraduate Students with Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain,โ which earned them the title of Best in Oral Presentation.
