Showcasing Barangay Pusok: The Show Window Tourism of Lapu-Lapu City
The SUROY-SADYA Festival is a celebration of culture, community, and tourism that proudly highlights the vibrant life and attractions of Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City. Identified through cultural mapping as the "Show Window of Tourism" in the city, Barangay Pusok stands out as a dynamic destination where leisure, entertainment, and local identity converge.
At the heart of this barangay lies the Millennium Park, a bustling hub that reflects the spirit of the community. The park features sports facilities that encourage active lifestyles, a nice vibrant public space nestled beneath the majestic Marcelo Fernan Bridge. Designed to serve as a recreational haven for the local community and tourist, Video karaoke entertainment bars that bring joy and music to both locals and tourists, and a variety of food stalls/park that offer a taste of authentic local cuisine and tourism that captures the essence of the barangay’s role in welcoming the world into the heart of the island.
Strategically located at the threshold of the city, Barangay Pusok is the gateway to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, one of the Philippines’ busiest and most beautiful international airports. Every traveler arriving in Cebu first steps foot in Pusok, making it a symbolic entry point for global and domestic tourism. These elements come together to create a unique space that is both lively and welcoming. Moreover, it is also a highlight celebration of praises and thanksgiving in honor of the feast day of Barangay Pusok’s Patroness, Our Lady of Fatima.
The term "Suroy-Sadya" which means "stroll and enjoy" in the local dialect captures the essence of the festival. It invites everyone to experience the simple yet meaningful joys of community life, local flavors, and recreational fun. More than a celebration, the SUROY-SADYA Festival is a tribute to Barangay Pusok’s vital role in promoting tourism and showcasing the warmth and hospitality of the Oponganons.
Through colorful performances, engaging activities, and community-led initiatives, the festival aims to strengthen local pride, attract visitors, and support sustainable tourism in Lapu-Lapu City. It is a celebration not only of place but of the people who bring it to life.
