The Lapu-Lapu City Government, conducted the 3rd Quarter Solo Parent Cash Subsidy payout today at the Barangay Buaya Gymnasium.

The payout was facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), in coordination with the City Treasurerโ€™s Office.

A total of 1,257 solo parents from 30 barangays across Lapu-Lapu City received P3,000 each as part of the 3rd Quarter Solo Parent Cash Subsidy.

Aside from the cash assistance, the City Government also distributed Solo Parent Purchase Booklets to qualified solo parents with children aged six years old and below. The booklet provides a 10% discount on essential items such as vitamins, diapers, medicines, milk, and other needs of their children.

One of the beneficiaries, Juvenile Diangco, 49, a solo parent from Barangay Calawisan, expressed her gratitude to the Lapu-Lapu City Government, saying that the financial assistance provides valuable support for her childโ€™s daily needs and allowance.

โ€œKami nga nag-inusara ra, dako jud kaayo ni nga tabang para namo. Para sa allowance sa among anak ug sa mga needs, makatabang jud kaayo ni nga maka-provide mi. Sa Chan administration, daghan kaayong salamat.โ€

Meanwhile, Neicy Gozon, 38, of Barangay Ibo, expressed her appreciation for the assistance, particularly amid the rising cost of basic necessities and school expenses.

โ€œDako na kaayog tabang namo ni nga gihatag sa Government. Naghatag ni namo og kaabag, especially karon nga nagkamahal na jud ang mga palitonon ug pangbaon sa mga bata sa eskwelahan. Daghang salamat sa atong mga government officials.โ€

Lapu-Lapu City has unveiled its official basketball team that will represent the city in the upcoming Governor's Cup U-18 Basketball Tournament, with the opening ceremony set for September 27.

Mayor Cindi King-Chan led the distribution of basketball uniforms, shoes, tumblers, and bags to the team, together with Sports Commissioner Vince Carungay.

The team is composed of 24 members, including 15 players and nine coaching staff led by Head Coach Lloyd Solis.

Commissioner Vince Carungay said preparations are underway as this marks the city's first basketball entry in the Governor's Cup. The city has previously participated three times in volleyball, with last year's team emerging as cluster champion.

Organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) under the provincial government's sports development program, the tournament aims to discover and develop young basketball talents. It is open to players aged 18 and below from Cebu's municipalities and component cities.

The City Government expressed its full support for the young athletes as they represent Lapu-Lapu City and strive to bring pride and honor to the city.

In line with the celebration of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) 2026, the City Government of Lapu-Lapu, under the leadership of Mayor Cindi King-Chan, together with Congressman Junard โ€œAhongโ€ Chan, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), invites members of the diving community to take part in SCUBASURERO 2026.

This underwater cleanup drive aims to protect the marine environment and help keep Lapu-Lapu Cityโ€™s coastal waters clean and healthy.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan commended the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) for being named Best Highly Urbanized City Police Office in the region for two consecutive months and for its consistent performance throughout the year.

"Two months in a row, we have been the best police office in the region for the whole year, especially in the big events like ASEAN and IRONMAN. Let's lead and set an example of good work and be guided by what is right and just, regardless of the noise and outside challenges. We focus on our job and mandate as we want that public service reaches the Oponganon community," Mayor Chan said.

LCPO City Director PCol Agosto Daskeo presented the award during its monthly meeting with Mayor Chan on September 16, 2026, at the City Mayor's Conference Room. The meeting brought together the City Intelligence Unit, Station Commanders, and Secretary to the Mayor, Atty. Missaelle Tejano.

Mayor Cindi pushed for stronger security measures and closer coordination with barangays to ensure the safety of every Oponganon.

Discussions focused on strengthening the city's public safety framework. This includes the distribution of public safety indicators to barangays to help monitor and prevent crimes, updates on the campaign against loose fi****ms to reduce gun-related incidents, especially on school premises, and the conduct of public safety and community simulation exercises to prepare both police and residents for responding to emergencies and security threats.

The LCPO also presented its latest accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs and loose fi****ms, along with its assessment of the current drug situation and the overall peace and order condition in the city. Officers also reported that the presence of fugitives in the city remains a concern. Smuggling was also seen as a potential threat due to Lapu-Lapu's island setting, numerous ports, coastal areas, and accessibility to maritime routes.

The police also noted that illegal gaming activities in the area involved foreign nationals, while illegal gaming residences and other crimes and minor offenses continue to be monitored.

Mayor Cindi directed the LCPO to intensify security efforts on the ground and strengthen coordination with barangay officials to prevent crime and maintain order in communities.

City Director Daskeo assured the city government of its proactive support to provide responsive, effective, and community-oriented police service to all Oponganons.

The city government reaffirmed its commitment to sustain peace, security, and development through strong partnership with law enforcement agencies.

Mayor Cindi King Chan led the ceremonial distribution held at the Mayorโ€™s Conference Room.

The initiative, facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), aims to help beneficiaries regain comfort, confidence and self-esteem through access to free dentures.

The denture fitting was conducted by City Health Dentist Dr. Noemi Guba in partnership with Dr. Richie Martinez, Dr. Jeremy John Alcano and Dr. Jennifer Antivo.

The program is part of the city governmentโ€™s efforts to provide essential healthcare services and improve the quality of life of Oponganons.
