Welcome to my 5-part series on how I went from corporate to building the WFH life I have today.

I didn’t start from zero.

Before I went full-time freelancing, I was already doing part-time work online, back when Upwork was still called oDesk. That experience gave me the confidence to see freelancing as a real option, especially when becoming a parent changed how I looked at work, time, and flexibility.

It wasn’t an overnight decision. It was a slow transition from knowing freelancing existed to realizing, maybe I could actually build a life around it.

Part 2 is about what I did before finally leaving corporate. Follow and watch out for the next part. 👀

Haven’t posted much lately because work has been busy, but messages like this remind me why I share. Knowing my content gives someone a little hope means so much.

The 4th quarter always takes me back to my job-hunting season. It was humbling, but looking back, I’m so grateful I made it through.

Whatever career season you’re in, keep going, y’all. Job hunting? Be intentional and adjust your strategy. Unemployed? Rest, but keep learning. Use free resources, upskill, and put what you learn into practice.

The job hunt can be brutal. Take a breather when you need to, but don’t give up on yourself. Keep praying and showing up.

WFH Edition: things worth spending money on for peace of mind.

I know some people are very anti-insurance and would rather invest the money themselves. ✌️

But for me, as a parent, I like knowing there’s something in place if life suddenly goes sideways.

Life insurance with critical illness coverage. HMO. And yes… even a St. Peter plan. 😂

Not the most exciting things to spend money on, but these are the expenses I don’t really mind paying.

Because working from home isn’t just about the nice setup, the coffee machine, or the ergonomic chair.

It’s also about making sure your family isn’t left figuring everything out during an emergency.

Hopefully I never have to use some of these.

But the peace of mind? Worth it.

3 Things Worth Your Money: WFH Edition 🏠💻

After working from home for years, these are three things I think are actually worth spending money on:

1. Coffee Machine ☕
The Breville PH Barista Express Impress has been perfect for a beginner like me. You don’t have to be a coffee expert to make a decent cup at home, and if you drink coffee every workday, having a machine within a few steps of your desk just makes sense.

2. EMEET Speakerphone 🎙️
Probably one of my best purchases this year. If you’re constantly in meetings, this is such a nice upgrade from wearing a headset all day. I’ve been using mine for months now and it has become one of those things I didn’t think I needed until I had one.

3. A Good Ergonomic Chair 🪑
I don’t have a specific brand to recommend because everyone’s body and budget are different, but please invest in a chair that actually supports you. If you’re sitting at your desk for 8+ hours a day, this is probably one of the last things you should cheap out on.

WFH can save you money in a lot of ways, but sometimes spending a little more on the things you use every single day makes working from home so much better.

What’s one WFH purchase you’d happily buy again?
