For Jayvee Lyn Lorejo, birthdays are not just about candles and cakeโthey are about creating moments of meaning. This year, she chose to celebrate her special day with the elderly community of Davao, turning her birthday into an act of love and gratitude.
Through her advocacy, the Pangga Project, Jayvee organized a heartfelt gathering where the elderly were not only honored but also reminded that they are deeply loved, remembered, and valued. Guests received thoughtful care packages, shared stories, and enjoyed the warmth of being celebratedโnot just as individuals of age, but as people who have given so much of themselves to their families and communities.
โPangga,โ a word often spoken by Filipino grandmothers, means beloved or my dear. It is this spirit of love, care, and affection that inspired Jayvee to create the Pangga Project, which focuses on two missions: providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to underprivileged familiesโespecially the elderlyโand extending compassion, respect, and dignity to those who are often left in silence and solitude.
โFor me, birthdays are not just about receiving, but about giving,โ Jayvee shared. โOur elders have given us wisdom, love, and sacrifice. On my birthday, I wanted them to feel cherished the way they once cherished us. Because in every pangga, there is a promiseโto uplift, to honor, and to never forget.โ
By spending her birthday with the elderly of Davao, Jayvee Lyn Lorejo embodied the heart of her advocacy: that true joy is found in giving, in honoring those who came before us, and in creating spaces where everyone feels beloved.
