Paris Fashion Week Designer Mitch Desunia Grounded by Airline Mishandling — Calls for Accountability and Artist Protection

Paris, France — October 5, 2025
International fashion designer Mitch Desunia, who was scheduled to present her latest couture collection at Hitech Moda during Paris Fashion Week on October 3, 2025, was unable to showcase her work after her checked-in luggage containing the entire collection was mishandled and delayed by Saudia Airlines.
Desunia, who has graced global runways from Toronto, New York, Tokyo, London, Milan, and Budapest to Paris, arrived in France expecting to represent Filipino artistry on an international stage. However, upon landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport, her luggage — containing custom couture gowns, handcrafted accessories, and presentation materials — was nowhere to be found.
“Months of preparation and years of dreams were inside that suitcase,”
Desunia shared. “Each gown represented stories of resilience, craftsmanship, and Filipino excellence. But because of one airline’s negligence, that voice was silenced on one of the world’s most important stages.”
A lost baggage claim was filed immediately at the Paris airport, and Desunia has since submitted a formal claim to Saudia Airlines’ Baggage Claims Department. As of press time, she awaits a resolution and formal acknowledgment from the airline.
While Desunia has chosen grace over outrage, she emphasizes that her call is not only for personal justice but for systemic accountability — to ensure artists, professionals, and travelers are protected when their creative or professional livelihoods are at stake.
“This isn’t just about a lost bag — it’s about lost opportunity, lost craftsmanship, and lost voices. I hope airlines understand that what we entrust to them are not just belongings, but pieces of our life’s work,”
Desunia added.
Despite the setback, Desunia’s advocacy, “The Truly Rich Life,” continues to inspire. Her philosophy — that true wealth is found not only in material success but in purpose, peace, and perseverance — shines even through this ordeal.
“True elegance,” she said, “is how you rise, even when everything falls apart.”
Desunia remains in Paris for meetings with buyers and press partners and is working on a special exhibition dedicated to resilience and recovery — turning what could have been an ending into a new beginning.
