MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) urged the public to stay away from beaches as it warned that tsunami from the huge quake in Russia will hit the country this afternoon.
In a revised advisory following the magnitude 8.7 earthquake that struck off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia early Wednesday, Phivolcs chief Teresito Bacolcol said the coastal areas in the Philippines fronting the Pacific Ocean are expected to be hit by tsunami of less than one meter.
