Safer roads are a team effort.

Road safety isn't achieved through regulations and infrastructure alone—it takes education, vehicle readiness, and responsible daily practices. To prove this, the Truck Manufacturers Association Inc (TMA) actively stepped up to support the DOTr’s National Road Safety Campaign through two major initiatives this May.

1) Grassroots PUV training (Antipolo, Rizal): On May 21, TMA partnered with the DOTr, LTFRB, and GIZ to conduct hands-on National Road Safety Training for the members, drivers, and mechanics of the Lungsod Silangan Transport Service and Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LSTSMPC).

The sessions equipped our transport frontliners with direct, practical knowledge: 🔹 Pre-drive vehicle inspections and troubleshooting 🛠️ 🔹 Modern PUV standards and safety feature operations 🔹 Preventive maintenance schedules 🔹 Fuel eco-driving practices to save on costs

2) The National Road Safety Summit: Following the training, TMA took its message to the national stage on May 26, showcasing how commercial vehicle manufacturers are driving continuous education and proper fleet maintenance under the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan (PRSAP).

Wiping out a P36,000 monthly fuel bill? The math doesn’t lie.

For Metro Manila’s ride-hailing drivers, a daily margin can hinge on just a few hundred pesos. With volatile pump prices eating away at those thin lines, VinFast Philippines—officially the No.2 BEV brand in the country according to CAMPI—is introducing a disruptive commercial rental model that flips the traditional earnings mindset on its head!

The breakdown for service drivers:

Nha Trang compares 2U…

Sepanx setting in as we prepare to transit from Vietnam back to the Philippines. From May 25-29, the country’s motoring media editors went on a tour of the VinGroup’s numerous facilities, most notably its automotive arm’s manufacturing hub in Hai Phong, culminating with a ride-and-drive of several BEVs including the 5-seater VF7 and the VF MPV 7 full-electric 7-seater (which was recently launched in the Philippines) at Vinpearl Nha Trang at Hon Tre Island.

We also got to try out VinFast e-scooters, and got to examine the hot-off-the-line VF 9 and Lac Hong 500 LX. Lac Hong is VinFast's dedicated ultra-luxury EV brand.

From what we saw, heard, and felt during this 5-day trip, we could sense that VinFast’s management and its people embody the “fast” part of their company’s name: Aggressive, super hands-on, and singularly focused on catching up with the global markets. That’s how they rock and roll with a gung-ho mentality.

AUTO SALES DIP, BUT ELECTRICITY IS IN THE AIR!

Based on the latest joint report from CAMPI and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), the local automotive market registered around 32,400 vehicle sales in April 2026. While overall sales dipped 17% compared to last month due to seasonality and the ongoing oil crisis, there is a massive silver lining: Electrified vehicles (xEVs) are skyrocketing!

The electrified surge:
xEVs climbed to a commanding 22% of total industry sales—gaining a massive 5 percentage points over March.

⚡ How the xEV pie slices up:

🔄 Hybrids (HEVs): Remain the undisputed kings, locking down 70% of total xEV sales.
🔌 Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs): Snagging a growing 23% share as buyers chase longer ranges.
