"A Message from our LORD"
by Jeff Dominguez
Every morning, my phone would ring for about 5-6 times. The first one is the wake-up alarm. After that, the messages and notifications from various apps will start crashing in. I receive notifications from Gmail, Facebook, FB messenger, and also the text messages. I'm not really a sociable person, but I find it funny that the technology we have nowadays is working hard to keep us connected to everyone. One morning, I was surprised to see a rare notification. My phone said that I received a message from our Lord.
This notification surprised me because the Bible Apps on my phone don't usually do this (in fact this was the first time). When I checked on it, it was simply the verse of the day which, on that particular day, was Psalm 91:1 which says, "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." That message surely made me smile; but what really hit me hard was the fact that my phone labeled it not as a "verse-of-the-day," but as a "message from our Lord."
This made me contemplate: how do we really see the Bible? Do we see it like that? as a message from our Lord?
When we receive messages and notifications from our loved ones, we are so excited to open it immediately. We are so eager to hear what they are going to say or know how they are doing. Sadly, many of us don't have that same excitement for God's words. We take God's words for granted. Sometimes, we even see it as a duty or an obligation to read. This experience made me realize that God's words in the Bible are not different from the messages and notifications that we receive on social media. It is a message from the Lord. The Bible is like an e-mail or text message from God. THE PRESENCE OF THE BIBLE IN THIS WORLD IS THE VERY EVIDENCE THAT GOD WANTS TO SEND US A MESSAGE. He wants to connect with us and tell us how much He loves and cares for us. And the heart of God's message is Jesus Christ: our only way and hope for salvation and forgiveness.
I understand that living in a world that we have now makes everyone very busy. We receive so many messages and notifications from our family, friends, workmates, clients, and so on. With all these floods of messages, may this devotion remind us that the first message we should always check in the morning is the loving message from our Lord.
"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life." - Psalm 143:8
