The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading a bill banning political dynasties, with lawmakers voting 267-20-7 in favor of House Bill 8389 on June 3, 2026.

This measure seeks to prohibit spouses and relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity from running for or occupying elective positions within the same constituency or jurisdiction.

The approval came two weeks after the bill passed on second reading.

Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong urged the Senate to act on the bill.

“We now call upon our counterparts in the Senate to swiftly approve this important measure,” Adiong emphasized in a statement.

If enacted into law, spouses and relatives within the covered degree of relationship would be barred from simultaneously holding or seeking elective posts in the same political area.

Mabuhay, Perpetualites!

Kaya ‘wag niyo kalimutan alagaan sarili niyo, ha?

Enjoy nyo lang yung bakasyon, even in the simplest ways.

Kita-kits next sem, Perpetualites!

ICYMI: Lawmaker Jinggoy Estrada surrendered to authorities after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant of arrest against him in connection with his non-bailable plunder case involving the flood control controversy on June 1, 2026.

Estrada said he would not seek Senate custody following the issuance of the arrest warrant.

"Hindi ko gagamitin ang Senado bilang panangga laban sa mga alegasyon sa akin," he stated during a press conference.

"I will be proceeding now to the CIDG to voluntarily surrender myself," he added.

Senator Bam Aquino and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) launched the Allied Health Experiential Assistance for Deserving Students (AHEAD) Grant on May 25, 2026.

The AHEAD Grant will provide a one-time subsidy of 25,000 pesos to eligible students enrolled in Related Learning Experience (RLE) programs during the first semester of the academic year 2026–2027.

The financial aid aims to help them deal with the costly clinical training requirements that are allegedly the cause of dropouts notwithstanding the free tuition policy.

Students participating in 14 CHED-priority allied health programs, such as nursing, pharmacy, midwifery, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, and other medical-related courses, are covered by the AHEAD grant.

According to CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis on May 28, the program's goal is to help students enrolled in allied health courses who are increasingly struggling financially.

“Iyong mga clinical trainings nila in hospitals, clinics, community, rural health unit, at mga iba pa kung minsan sa mga private institution, health clinics ng private,” Agrupis stated.

Meanwhile, Aquino claimed that the plan came up as a result of numerous complaints from nursing and allied health students regarding expensive RLE fees during the 2025 campaign.

The AHEAD Grant, according to CHED, will be available to eligible students from both public and private universities that provide allied health programs that are acknowledged by CHED.

Today, June 3, we celebrate World Bicycle Day. an annual observance that recognizes the bicycle as a practical, affordable, and environmentally friendly means of transportation.

Riding a bicycle helps reduce traffic congestion and air pollution while promoting healthier lifestyles and stronger communities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), regular cycling can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

In addition, bicycles provide an affordable way to travel and can improve access to education, healthcare, and other essential services, particularly in underserved communities. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, World Bicycle Day promotes sustainable mobility and supports both physical and mental well-being.

The observance serves as a reminder of how a simple form of transportation can contribute to healthier people, cleaner environments, and more inclusive communities.

Today in Philippine history, June 2, 1899, the Malolos Congress formally declared war against the United States.

This decision marked a decisive turning point in the Philippine struggle for independence following the end of Spanish colonial rule.

Convened in Malolos, Bulacan, the congress had adopted the Malolos Constitution the previous year and sought to defend the fledgling First Philippine Republic against foreign intervention aimed at asserting control over the islands.

This declaration reflects the complexity and tragedy of the Philippine–American War, a conflict driven by competing visions of sovereignty, self-determination, and imperial ambition.

At the same time, it underscores the determination of Filipinos to assert their right to nationhood despite overwhelming challenges.

Remembering this day invites reflection on the sacrifices of Filipino leaders and soldiers who fought for independence.

Moreover, it spotlights the long and contested path toward freedom, as well as the democratic ideals that the Malolos Republic aspired to uphold.
