CITY OF LAS PIร‘AS DECLARES STATE OF CALAMITY DUE TO SOUTHWEST MONSOON FLOODING

The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Las Piรฑas has officially declared a State of Calamity in the city following widespread and severe flooding caused by continuous torrential rains and aggravated by the effects of the Southwest Monsoon.

This was enacted through City Resolution No. 4449-25, which cited that 18 barangays were affected, with floodwaters reaching beyond three (3) feet in several low-lying areas. According to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), almost 2,000 families or at least 6,000 individuals were displaced and are currently taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers across the city.

The declaration is based on the recommendations of the Las Piรฑas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and Resolution No. 2025-06 of the Las Piรฑas Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LPDRRMC), which cited the need for urgent action due to the continuing hazards posed by flooding.

Mayor April Aguilar has mobilized all concerned departments, including the DRRMO, City Engineering Office, CSWDO, and City Health Office, to continue delivering aid and conducting assessments in the hardest-hit communities. Relief distribution efforts are also ongoing in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

TSG Joy V. Lozano, Dr. Perlita C. Custodio, Dr. Emerlyn E. Managuas, Dr. Ma. Victoria Mendoza, and Dr. Geraldine Ann R. Lenon ranked eighth in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Trends.

While Dr. Emerlyn E. Managuas and Dr. Jenniline D. Eya placed 22nd in the Infrastructure/Technologies category.

The university also placed 24th in Visionary Leadership, with Dr. Emerlyn E. Managuas and Ms. Rowena G. Morta, adviser of The Perpetualite, the university's official student publication, named in the category.
