𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐂𝐈𝐓, 𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐒𝐂 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐌𝐎𝐀 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

In a significant stride toward fostering inter-institutional collaboration, the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) of Cagayan State University Lasam Campus and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) Santiago Campus formally sealed their partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony today, October 22, at ISPSC Santiago.

Anchored on the theme “Building Bridges Through Collaboration: A Journey Towards Universityhood,” the alliance seeks to strengthen academic exchange, research linkages, and shared initiatives that advance both institutions’ commitment to excellence and regional development.

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞
The program opened with a welcome address from Dr. Ranec A. Azarias, Assistant Campus Director of ISPSC Santiago, who expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and its role in cultivating innovation beyond institutional borders.

Dr. Reymart G. Ballocanag, Research Coordinator, introduced the undertaking and underscored the significance of collaborative efforts that promote mutual academic growth and sustainable knowledge exchange.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦
Prof. Dr. Florante Victor M. Balatico, Campus Executive Officer of CSU Lasam, highlighted the importance of wisdom, strength, and beauty in pursuing purposeful collaborations that ultimately benefit the students—the heart of every educational endeavor.

“We exist for our institution because we have our students,” CEO Balatico emphasized.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. John Carlo Banan, CIT Dean, described the MOA not merely as a document, but as a bridge that unites two learning communities.

“This MOA is not merely a document—it is a bridge. A bridge that connects Ilocos Sur and Cagayan, that unites educators, innovators, and visionaries,” Dean Banan shared.

𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬
Representing ISPSC Santiago, Dr. Allan O. Ramos, Campus Director, expressed optimism toward the partnership, emphasizing its purpose beyond documentation.

“This is not just a special MOA Signing, it’s actually more of learning development. Hindi lang ito sa papel. We will learn from each other, because your success is also our success,” Dr. Ramos conveyed.

The session continued with the signing proper, followed by a campus tour and an exhibit of student research outputs. #

𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗢𝗪 | The distribution of PhilHealth IDs for individuals aged 21 years old and above is currently underway at the DARP Hall of CSU Lasam Campus. This activity follows the recently concluded student and CSU personnel profiling and free medical services conducted under the PhilHealth YAKAP Caravan Initiative.

| With a curious mind and a heart for innovation, this 18-year-old from Centro 2, Lasam, Cagayan now thrives at the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS).

To hear him sing is to feel something stir within you. You may know him as a singer whose voice is so enchanting it echoes through a quiet room, soft, haunting, and impossible to forget. But behind that, you’ll find a person who has been tested by faith.

His childhood was like that of any other kid, but as he entered high school, his life suddenly shifted. His parents were going through a rough time and eventually decided to part ways. He was left in the care of his father, living with his lola.

Though his life has had its share of challenges, he’s learned to carry them with quiet strength. As he puts it, “Fear walks with me, not ahead of me.” You can’t run from fear, but you can learn to befriend it, to stand beside it. Fear isn’t something to be afraid of; it’s something to embrace.

In celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month and the 28th Anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), the Cagayan State University (CSU) Lasam Alumni Association, with support from the Campus Administration, will proudly feature Ms. Riza Banuagan Ittapan, CSU Lasam’s first Agta (Indigenous People) graduate, as the speaker for its Alumni Talk Series on October 24, 2025, via Zoom.

A Bachelor of Elementary Education alumna from Class of 2025 and a native of Calassitan, Santo Niño, Cagayan, Ms. Ittapan will share her journey titled “From Ancestral Roots to Academic Pursuits” which will highlight her inspiring path from the uplands to the university halls.

The event aims to celebrate CSU Lasam’s Indigenous roots while honoring alumni who embody resilience, empowerment, and excellence.

Since August 2025, the Association has been featuring notable alumni who share inspiring stories of success, resilience, and service to the community.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐂𝐒𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐔𝐅𝐀 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

University Faculty Association (UFA) Presidents from the different satellite campuses of Cagayan State University (CSU) convened at CSU Lasam for their regular meeting today, October 17.

The meeting served as a platform to discuss institutional updates, resolutions, and other faculty concerns, ensuring that members remain informed, engaged, and represented in the university-wide decision-making.

Dr. Jehan U. Gerardo, CSU Lasam’s FA President, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to host the gathering, emphasizing the value of inclusivity across campuses.

“Nakatutuwa nga kasi parang even small campuses like Lasam can have a chance of hosting a regular meeting para other representatives can also have a time and chance to meet the faculty members of CSU-Lasam,” Dr. Gerardo stated.

When asked how the voices of faculty members are ensured to be heard, Dr. Gerardo explained that they adhere to the directive of Dr. Ricardo Casauay, University Faculty Regent, to cascade proposed resolutions to all members before final approval.

“Ine-encourage nga ni Sir Ric na before namin i-approve yung mga resolution, yung resolution na sinend niya sa GC namin should be cascaded to all faculty members para doon mag-solicit ng suggestions, and then babalik sa amin tsaka namin ide-deliberate to come up with a final resolution,” the President added.

After the meeting, the participants toured around the campus, capping off a productive and collaborative day.

In a notable display of intellect and innovation, Cagayan State University–Lasam Campus showcased its excellence in research and community engagement as its entry in the Development/ Extension Category secured 2nd Place during the 45th University Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) In-House Review held on October 13, 2025, at CSU Andrews Campus.

Presented by Assoc. Prof. Bernard P. Madarang, Campus Extension Coordinator, the project titled “Sustainable Cacao for Resilient Communities” was led by Prof. Florante Victor M. Balatico, Campus Executive Officer, together with co-proponents Dr. John Carlo Banan, Dr. Dominador Agatep Jr., and Dr. Wilfredo Perciano.

Reflecting on their achievement, Prof. Madarang humbly shared that he did not expect to win due to the limited time preparation.

“I never expected to win because of the overlapping activities and the short span of time I had to prepare," Prof. Madarang said.

He also highlighted the project’s greater purpose in uplifting local communities.

"Through the cacao project, the university empowers communities with knowledge, skills, and livelihood opportunities," he further added

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐘𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐏 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐒𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐦

In its continuing effort to extend accessible healthcare services to the academic community, the PhilHealth YAKAP Caravan, in partnership with the Lasam District Hospital (LDH), visited Cagayan State University–Lasam Campus to provide free medical services to employees and students.

As part of the initiative, LDH conducted profiling activities to register CSU personnel and students under the PhilHealth YAKAP Program, along with free medical check-ups, laboratory services, and medicines. The activity aims to strengthen health awareness and ensure that the CSU Lasam community can easily avail of government-supported medical benefits.

The caravan forms part of PhilHealth’s ongoing campaign to bring health services closer to the people through collaborations with local hospitals and institutions.
