Carrying the name of Lasam and Cagayan State Universityโ Lasam Campus to a wider stage, third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) student Ryan Urmanita secured third place in the Songwriting and Singing Contest during the Coconut Month Celebration 2026 held here on Aug. 11โ13.
As the sole representative of Lasam among the participating contestants, Urmanita competed against representatives from various schools in Isabela, including Isabela State Universityโ Roxas Campus and Isabela State Universityโ San Mateo Campus.
Despite the pressure of representing both his hometown and campus, Urmanita said he drew courage from the opportunity to bring honor to Lasam.
โMay halong kaba pero mas nangibabaw ang lakas ng loob ko dahil hindi lang para sakin ang karangalan na pwede kong makuha sa kompetisyon kundi para sa minamahal kong Bayan ng Lasam. " he said.
More than an avenue to showcase his musical talent, the competition allowed Urmanita to use his original composition to promote awareness of the coconut industry and environmental protection.
For Urmanita, his song carried a message beyond the competition. He said the piece aimed to recognize the various opportunities offered by the coconut industry while encouraging people to protect, conserve, and appreciate the environment.
โNais ipahiwatig ng kantang ito ang kahalagaan at ibat ibang pakinabang ng niyog, nakasulat din dito na dapat alagaan, mahalin at ingatan ang ating mahal na kalikasanโ, he stated.
Organized annually by the Agricultural Training InstituteโRegional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02), the Coconut Month Celebration features coconut-based products, innovative technologies, and activities highlighting the potential of the coconut industry.
