𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜| 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗲𝗔 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵

The Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) held its Baccalaureate Mass for the Graduating Class of 2025 last June 23, 2025, at the historic Nuestra Señora de la Porteria Parish Church, commonly known as Daraga Church.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration marked a significant milestone for the graduating students as they gave thanks for their academic journey and sought blessings for the path ahead. Present during the celebration were members of the faculty and several parents who joined in prayer and support.

The Mass concluded with a special blessing for the graduates, signifying their transition from students to future professionals ready to serve with integrity and excellence.

𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜 | 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗲𝗔 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Students of the Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) were recognized for their outstanding achievements during the annual Awards Ceremony held on June 11, 2025, at the BU College of Engineering (BUCENG) Gymnasium. The event carried the theme "Life Champions and Future-Ready Scholars of the 21st Century."

The ceremony officially commenced at 8:48 a.m. with an opening prayer led by Engr. Edmar C. Toledo, followed by welcome remarks from Ar. Maureen M. Sia, OIC-Director of BUIDeA. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Julietta B. Borres, PhD, also delivered an inspirational message, commending the students for their perseverance and success.

Bicol University President, Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III, SUC President IV, extended his warm congratulations to the awardees, recognizing their dedication and academic excellence. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of the university and continue striving for excellence as future architects committed to service and integrity.

Keynote speaker Ar. Megan Oringo, CEO of Pananom Co., shared her journey as a professional in the field of architecture. Reflecting on the struggles and triumphs of her academic and professional life, she urged students to remain steadfast in their purpose and to embrace the challenges ahead with courage and resilience.

The event celebrated a broad range of achievements. Students were recognized for academic excellence, leadership, sports, research, and participation in extracurricular competitions. Awards were given to student scholars, leaders, and individuals who brought honor to the institute through exceptional performance in various disciplines.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the address delivered by Ms. Josie Marie V. Sobredenilla, named Most Outstanding College Student in Scholarship. In her speech, she shared her personal journey as an architecture student, offering words of encouragement and inspiration to her fellow students.

Ar. Virgilio Montero, BUIDeA Department Chair, delivered the closing message, commending the students’ hard work and extending gratitude to the faculty and staff who supported their journey. The program concluded with the singing of the Bicol University Hymn, a gesture of unity and gratitude to the alma mater.

Amid some issues during the program, the event remained a meaningful celebration of the dedication, resilience, and achievements of BUIDeA students.

Sto. Domingo, Albay – The Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) successfully held its much-anticipated 5th Year Retreat last Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Mary’s Healing Sanctuary in Brgy. Lidong, Sto. Domingo, Albay. The whole-day activity brought together graduating students for a meaningful send-off that emphasized reflection, connection, and preparation for life beyond the university.⁣
⁣
The retreat, spearheaded by 5th-year Org Chairperson Homer Reden L. Desolo, provided a space for students to pause and reflect on their academic journey while contemplating their next steps in life. Through a series of structured activities prepared and conducted by the retreat master, Rev. Fr. Jay Gargaceran—including workshops, group discussions, and self-reflection sessions. Participants were guided to explore their values, professional aspirations, and the challenges of post-graduate life.⁣
The program began with the students’ arrival at 7:30 a.m., followed by successive retreat sessions punctuated by meal breaks that encouraged informal bonding and peer engagement. Highlights of the event included the collaborative workshops and a mass that wrapped up the retreat at 5:00 p.m. ⁣

In line with its objectives, the retreat fostered holistic growth, promoted a sense of community, and culminated in students drafting personal post-graduate action plans. The activity underscored BUIDeA’s commitment to not only producing competent professionals but also nurturing resilient, self-aware individuals ready to face the world beyond the university.⁣

The retreat was made possible through the support of the CSC Adviser Ar. Shanna Mae B. Goyena, Campus Ministry Adviser Ar. Ana M. Lorilla, and CSASC Head Ar. Mary Grace R. Dalinog, and was approved by Institute OIC/Director Ar. Maureen M. Sia.⁣

𝐀 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬

It was in 2nd grade,
when our English teacher told us
that unicorns aren't real.
They're just this made-up entity
that's designed to make children feel —
A little sense of magic
and add a sparkle to their eyes.
Trigger their imagination
with some pretty convincing lie.
Which I immediately opposed asking—
“How could you be so sure?”
When I just saw one in the mirror
just before I went to school.
The boys at the back laughed
and called me a fool.
“In the mirror?” they asked,
“What are you, a mule?”
I replied yes, it was me.
As a horse with a horn on my forehead.
I was wandering on a rainbow
never knowing where I was headed.
A long luscious hair
in the colors of pink and blues.
Covering my head,
sweeping smoothly like winded blooms.
I had these gigantic wings
in such vibrant hues.
Bringing me up! up! up! the clouds
and I never had to wear shoes.
Instead, I put on these elevating slippers
that my older sister owns.
They make this clacking sound—
𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬, imitating the tone
That unicorns’ feet make
as they run to the glittering unknown.
But the sound of their laugh
never seemed to stop.
I stared blankly at the classroom floor
as my smile began to drop.
I sat slowly on my chair
that by the time had felt a little too cold.
Too cold for my burning ears
from a burst I’m trying to withhold.
The room turned silent.
I could hear my heart pounding.
My mind racing,
a head full of thoughts wondering—
Am I a unicorn in a room full of horses?
For a second, I thought
I'd be recognized and admired.
But I became a target of humor
to whom adversity was fired.
There’s this term spoken with vigor
that kept getting mentioned.
A word that reeked louder above all else,
catching my attention.
A descriptive one, I might add,
that I think I’ve heard before.
They use it as an insult,
without knowing what’s in store.
When a person deviates
from what has been perceived as normal.
There’ll be a subject of trial,
from which the judgment is always final.
A judgment so powerful
that it can force you to change—
Cut your horns, pluck your wings,
and remain in range.
Their words bleed iron and nickel,
forging a cage in just a whistle.
Leaving my identity ensnared,
deeming my humanity, impaired.
While their notion may seem faultless,
and what my English teacher said was true—
unicorns aren't real.
Horses don't grow horns
and genetically they never will.
But who’s to say horses
can’t wear headdresses?
like this one I have on mine?
Which made me feel a little pretty
and undoubtedly made me shine.
So call me a myth
or whatever you may claim.
But this is who I am,
and I’m no longer ashamed.

The Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) formally announces the newly elected members of the College Student Council (CSC) for the Academic Year 2025–2026.

Following a voter turnout of 80.66%, with 834 votes cast out of 1,034 registered students, the election results have been finalized and declared irrevocable.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗲𝗔 𝗖𝗦𝗖 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 2025

Candidates from the League of Liberal Reformists (LLR Reforma Coalition), the sole partylist running in the 2025 BUIDeA elections, formally pledged their commitment to ethical campaigning during a covenant signing held last April 24 at the BUIDeA Student Lounge.

College Student Electoral Board (CSEB) member Glynie Cortan presided over the ceremony, which included a review of election policies, the oath-taking of candidates, and the signing of the covenant.

The election process continues with the Convocation happening tomorrow, April 30, 2024, at the Arki Building. All students will be excused from their classes and are encouraged to participate by asking questions and evaluating the candidates’ platforms.

The Krokis Publication now formally presents the Official List of Candidates for the 2025 College Student Council (CSC) Elections, following a delay in release due to some matters concerning the College Student Affairs and Services Coordinator (CSASC).

This year, only the League of Liberal Reformists (LLR Reporma Coalition) submitted a certificate of candidacy, fielding a complete slate for the upcoming elections.

In light of the delay, the campaign period will commence tomorrow, April 24, immediately after the signing of the covenant. The date for the election convocation will be announced at a later time.

Despite running unopposed, all candidates are still required to secure the votes of at least 50% + 1 of the student body population to be officially elected. As such, the BUIDeA community is encouraged to remain vigilant and critical, carefully evaluating the platforms and promises laid out by the aspirants. The institution's future lies in the hands of its elected student leaders.
