Fifth year students of the Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture are currently gathered at the BUIDeA Annex Hall, today, September 19, for their thesis orientation organized by the faculty.

The program began at exactly 9:05 in the morning and will be discussing the following areas:

1. Thesis in Achitecture by Ar. Jobel Bartolome
2. Thesis Guidelines by Ar. Shanna Mae Goyena
3. The Council by Ar. Shanna Mae Goyena
4. Ethics Review Board Certification by Ar. Alwin Calig
5. Checklist of Documents for Off-Campus Activities (Students' End) by Ar. Mary Grace Dalinog

The orientation aims to ensure the students' unified understanding of the thesis process and requirements.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | Day 2 BUCHELLA 2025’s success!

Students from different colleges, campuses, and organizations joined the second day of the event for booth hopping and a random dance activity. They enjoyed visiting the booths in the morning and waited for the awarding ceremony in the evening.

During the awarding, winners of each event were announced, and the Bicol University Institute of Architecture (BUIDeA) was declared the overall champion. Afterward, students celebrated through an after-party and concert featuring local artist Tothapi.

The whole day highlighted the talents, teamwork, and efforts of the students, making the event memorable and exciting for everyone who took part.

Inanunsyo na lahat ng klase ay isasagawang online; synchronous o asynchronous— alinsunod sa Memorandum No. 332, Series of 2025 mula sa Office of the President, suspendido ang lahat ng face-to-face classes sa lahat ng antas ng baitang at kolehiyo bukas, Setyembre 18, 2025 (maliban sa BU Gubat) dahil sa nakaambang Nationwide Transport Strike.

All classes in public and private schools are to be held synchronously or asynchronously tomorrow, September 18, 2025, in accordance with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Albay Public Safety And Emergency Management Office (PDRRMC-APSEMO) Advisory 2025-30 for the Nationwide Transport Strike.

Furthermore, a memorandum about the PDRRMC-APSEMO warning has not yet been released by Bicol University. Please wait for additional announcements.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ARCHINEXT 2026 Competition Seeks Future Architects

ARCHINEXT: Calling for the most talented young and aspiring architects, the HCG Young Designers' Competition 2026 has formally launched. The competition's topic, "LIPARAN: Crafting Gateways that Connects Future" asks students to come up with creative ideas—designing an Airport concept under the construction innovation of community.

Participants in this year's competition, which is accessible to third and fourth-year architecture students, are tasked to design a space which demonstrates neat and accurate landscape . Design suggestions from teams of between three and five individuals from the same university will be submitted, with a view on creative environmentally responsible and culturally demonstrations.

In addition to the top prizes, the competition includes special awards, such as the Most Popular, Most Innovative, and an AI Award, each offering a cash prize. The winning team will take home a grand prize of P120,000, along with a prestigious award.

Students who are interested in joining must turn in their application form, a letter of recommendation from their dean, and other necessary paperwork. All entries, including technical drawings, comprehensive design plates, narrative reports, and papers outlining their design concept, must be made online.

𝗗𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | BUChella ‘25 marks Day 1 with Festive Activities

After multiple reschedulings, the long-awaited BUChella: The University Welcome Party finally commenced on Sept. 13, 2025.
With the theme “Welcome to BU: A Celebration of Belonging, Culture, and New Beginnings,” the first day of festivities began with the Thunderous Parade: College Branding Competition, where each college proudly showcased its desert-themed banners, costumes, and chants.

The parade was followed by the formal introduction of the colleges at the Bicol University (BU) Commencement Grounds, along with the Mx. BU-CHELLA’s Secret: Fashion of Wings segment.

In the afternoon, the program continued with the Grand Opening Salvo by the BU Magayon Dance Troupe, setting the stage for WANNA ROCK LIKE: ICONS BU Student Organization Showdown, which featured 10 performances from College-Based Organizations (CBOs), University-Based Organizations (UBOs), and Department-Based Organizations (DBOs).

Meanwhile, in the evening, nine bands took the stage to represent their respective colleges and showcase their musical prowess in the War of Parallels: The Competition.

The Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) has once again demonstrated its excellence in creativity, performance, and camaraderie as it garnered multiple awards during the recently concluded BUCHELLA 2025: The University Welcome Party, held on September 13 and 14 at the Bicol University Main Campus.

The event, which serves as the annual kickoff celebration for the academic year, brought together students from across all colleges and institutes of Bicol University in a festive display of unity, talent, and school spirit. BUIDeA’s participation stood out across various competitions, with students showcasing their outstanding capabilities in both artistic and organizational fields.

In another feat of greatness, the institute received numerous recognitions that highlighted the exceptional skills of its students and reflected the culture of discipline and collaboration nurtured within BUIDeA. BU IDEA emerged as the Overall Champion with 65 total garnered points, outperforming all other campuses and colleges. Their strong and consistent participation across multiple events made them a standout competitor.

As BUIDeA continues to cultivate future designers and architects, moments such as this reaffirm the institute’s role not only as an academic unit but also as a vibrant and engaged community within Bicol University.

The Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) held its Baccalaureate Mass for the Graduating Class of 2025 last June 23, 2025, at the historic Nuestra Señora de la Porteria Parish Church, commonly known as Daraga Church.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration marked a significant milestone for the graduating students as they gave thanks for their academic journey and sought blessings for the path ahead. Present during the celebration were members of the faculty and several parents who joined in prayer and support.

The Mass concluded with a special blessing for the graduates, signifying their transition from students to future professionals ready to serve with integrity and excellence.

𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜 | 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗲𝗔 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Students of the Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) were recognized for their outstanding achievements during the annual Awards Ceremony held on June 11, 2025, at the BU College of Engineering (BUCENG) Gymnasium. The event carried the theme "Life Champions and Future-Ready Scholars of the 21st Century."

The ceremony officially commenced at 8:48 a.m. with an opening prayer led by Engr. Edmar C. Toledo, followed by welcome remarks from Ar. Maureen M. Sia, OIC-Director of BUIDeA. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Julietta B. Borres, PhD, also delivered an inspirational message, commending the students for their perseverance and success.

Bicol University President, Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III, SUC President IV, extended his warm congratulations to the awardees, recognizing their dedication and academic excellence. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of the university and continue striving for excellence as future architects committed to service and integrity.

Keynote speaker Ar. Megan Oringo, CEO of Pananom Co., shared her journey as a professional in the field of architecture. Reflecting on the struggles and triumphs of her academic and professional life, she urged students to remain steadfast in their purpose and to embrace the challenges ahead with courage and resilience.

The event celebrated a broad range of achievements. Students were recognized for academic excellence, leadership, sports, research, and participation in extracurricular competitions. Awards were given to student scholars, leaders, and individuals who brought honor to the institute through exceptional performance in various disciplines.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the address delivered by Ms. Josie Marie V. Sobredenilla, named Most Outstanding College Student in Scholarship. In her speech, she shared her personal journey as an architecture student, offering words of encouragement and inspiration to her fellow students.

Ar. Virgilio Montero, BUIDeA Department Chair, delivered the closing message, commending the students’ hard work and extending gratitude to the faculty and staff who supported their journey. The program concluded with the singing of the Bicol University Hymn, a gesture of unity and gratitude to the alma mater.

Amid some issues during the program, the event remained a meaningful celebration of the dedication, resilience, and achievements of BUIDeA students.
