Students of the Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) were recognized for their outstanding achievements during the annual Awards Ceremony held on June 11, 2025, at the BU College of Engineering (BUCENG) Gymnasium. The event carried the theme "Life Champions and Future-Ready Scholars of the 21st Century."
The ceremony officially commenced at 8:48 a.m. with an opening prayer led by Engr. Edmar C. Toledo, followed by welcome remarks from Ar. Maureen M. Sia, OIC-Director of BUIDeA. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Julietta B. Borres, PhD, also delivered an inspirational message, commending the students for their perseverance and success.
Bicol University President, Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III, SUC President IV, extended his warm congratulations to the awardees, recognizing their dedication and academic excellence. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of the university and continue striving for excellence as future architects committed to service and integrity.
Keynote speaker Ar. Megan Oringo, CEO of Pananom Co., shared her journey as a professional in the field of architecture. Reflecting on the struggles and triumphs of her academic and professional life, she urged students to remain steadfast in their purpose and to embrace the challenges ahead with courage and resilience.
The event celebrated a broad range of achievements. Students were recognized for academic excellence, leadership, sports, research, and participation in extracurricular competitions. Awards were given to student scholars, leaders, and individuals who brought honor to the institute through exceptional performance in various disciplines.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the address delivered by Ms. Josie Marie V. Sobredenilla, named Most Outstanding College Student in Scholarship. In her speech, she shared her personal journey as an architecture student, offering words of encouragement and inspiration to her fellow students.
Ar. Virgilio Montero, BUIDeA Department Chair, delivered the closing message, commending the studentsโ hard work and extending gratitude to the faculty and staff who supported their journey. The program concluded with the singing of the Bicol University Hymn, a gesture of unity and gratitude to the alma mater.
Amid some issues during the program, the event remained a meaningful celebration of the dedication, resilience, and achievements of BUIDeA students.
