With a mission to deliver timely and accurate news to the Mechanical Engineering department studentry of Bicol University, each one of the Editorial board and Staff stepped up to uphold truth-based perspectives.

For the academic year 2026 - 2027, we aim to tell the stories of the ME department within your reach, serve as the voices of the students, and look at the administration of the student unit with a critical eye and fairness on every side.

𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍 | The Office of the President issued a memo on in-person class suspension at all levels on September 29-30, 2026 (Tuesday and Wednesday), in response to Albay Governor Noel E. Rosal’s announcement yesterday, September 27, 2026 (Sunday).

Pursuant to Office Memorandum No. 325, s. 2026, classes are shifted to an alternative learning modality in line with the scheduled transport strike on the said dates.

Midterm examinations may be shelved and rescheduled next week. Professors and students shall have a discourse relating to the deferring of exams and conclude a mutual agreement.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | The Bicol University Office of the President has issued a memorandum declaring the conduct of 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 effective on 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 28𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2026 to participate in the Kainang Pamilyang Pilipino in celebration of the 34th National Family Week.

This mode of learning will be implemented from 7:00AM to 1:00PM. Afterwards, students from all levels and members of the university are encouraged to share a meal with their families at home in line with this occasion.

𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 | 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐰: 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞, 𝐃𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐌𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐆 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

There is a flame residing in the hearts of all Mechanical Engineering students, fueled by the same aspirations, united and burning as one. On some days, it glows dim, in need of a spark to rekindle its radiance.

To the Bicol University Mechanical Engineering (ME) crowd of Mr. and Ms. College of Engineering (MMCENG) 2026, that spark came when Jaira Nicole Competente and James Mark De Jesus appeared on stage and set their hearts alight.

Coronation Night saw the two candidates walking the runway, exuding confidence with each stride as they represented the ME Department. Warming up for the following events, De Jesus outshone his fellow competitors and was named Mr. Congeniality and Mr. Adelaida Farm and Resort. Competente, who also ranked second for Best Production Number, was named Ms. Haircutters De Legazpi and Ms. Gordz Coworking Space.

The pair managed to win over the hearts of their audience, with Competente ranking second and De Jesus ranking third in the People’s Choice Award, as revealed by the official tabulation results presented by the Bicol University CENG–College Student Council (CSC) page.

With the Preliminary Question-and-Answer portion of the event serving as the deciding stage for the candidates who would earn places on the winners’ podium, the ME representatives answered with charisma and wit. The tabulation of scores showed that both Competente and De Jesus ranked third in the said round.

Nearing the conclusion of the event, the Top 3 contenders were announced, and the selected candidates advanced to the final round. Results later revealed that Competente and De Jesus placed fourth in the overall ranking for the Selection of Top 3, both just a few decimal points behind the next rank. Nevertheless, the two ME representatives’ radiating energy only proved that Mechanical Engineering pride endures and that its flag is worth bearing.

They serve as a pleasant reminder that in undertaking the college years—one of life’s trials by fire—all students alike should never let the flame carried in their hearts be extinguished. At the very least, it must remain aglow.

𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍 | The 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 has moved the conduct of classes to 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲 for all colleges 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟭, to 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆.

This is pursuant to the memorandum no. 321 series of 2026 released on September 19, urging faculty members and students to reflect on the history and significance of the country's Martial Law.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

The Momento editorial board and staff members attended the first publication meeting via Google Meet yesterday, September 13.

Led by Joel A. Alamo Jr., Editor-in-Chief, the meeting started with the introductions of the editorial board and staff, then followed with the assignment of tasks for upcoming events.

Alamo then discussed the constitution and by-laws, with an emphasis on the code of ethics, followed by the overview of the proposed resolutions slated to be presented in the upcoming special assembly.

In connection to the drafted resolutions, Pauline Gabrielle T. Arriola, the Managing Editor, laid out the budgetary proposal of the publication's operation for the academic year.

The meeting ended with attendees posing for a photo opportunity despite virtual restrictions.

Classes will shift to alternative learning modalities.

This temporary shift is to provide higher education institutions ample time to 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 against the rising dengue cases in the province.

Students are advised to remain at home and take appropriate precautions against mosquito bites, and monitor for possible symptoms of dengue.
