Albay’s King of the Hill
By Bernice Magadia

Ligńon Hill is 156-meter high hill that is one of most famous landmarks of Bicol. The entrance cost 20 pesos, but if you are a student or you are from Legazpi, it’s only 10 pesos.

There are so many activities that you can do at Ligńon Hill. First, you can hike up the hill. The right time to hike or jog is early morning. You can feel the cool and chill air during dawn. Early morning is always the best time to do the activities, such as, zip lining, biking, rappelling, and even paintball games.

One of the reasons that Ligńon Hill is really memorable to Bicolanos is that you can see a fantastic view of Mayon Volcano. Do you want to see a beautiful view of Legazpi? Enjoy a sublime 360 degrees view of Legazpi with friends and family at Lignon Hill. The best time to watch the view is at night and when you see the sunset. So, make a memorable night to go up the hill and watch the view of Legazpi with someone you love.

Speaking of spending time of someone you love, it’s a great dating place too. It’s one of the tourist spots that couples love to go to. Again, amazing view of the sunset and Legazpi. Probably a best way to propose your soul mate too is to go to this hill.

Exercise, have an adventure, and even spend time with your love ones at Ligńon Hill. You won’t regret going there. Well, you’ll get tired, but it’s worth climbing that top of that hill.

Basic
By Laiza Marie Tanguin

Young fashion bloggers can be seen anywhere on any sort of social media. They are scattered all over the world, sharing their own style, taste, and tips on how to work on baggy, old, or anything that they would like to try new or they think would trend. They also share trendy hairstyles and what’s appropriate shade should their makeup would be.. It’s a matter of taking risks in combining these pieces of clothes and especially with their colours. It’s a matter of self expression. The old school is the new school. Generation is changing yet the fashion sense from three decades ago is coming back haunting us, influencing us.

But what’s in today’s trendy fashion is the basic and minimalist.
The usual colours you can see to their clothes are black, white, and grey. I call it a playing safe trendy fashion for it works on everybody. Plain and simple that isn’t too much for the eyes because of its minimal colour. You won’t find it hard to combine the colours for the three complements each other.

For men’s usual look, they are matching a Hanes plain white or black shirt, black fitted jeans, and for the shoes, a topsider, a Nike Roshe, or just plain white or black sneakers. For women, they are using crop tops or muscle tees, boyfriend jeans, high waited jeans also called as joni jeans to flaunt their curves, flip flops, 2 inch heels, or sneakers to sum up the look. They consider it as a happy colour. How ironic it is to say but the message they want to put is maybe more on being comfortable on what you wear and such colours is a sophisticated colour, dominant yet classy making you feel elated.

When it comes to girl’s make up, it still has the same shade, dark. How girl’s do they make up is that they put great importance on eyebrows for eyebrows is everything. Eyebrow game can be too strong, cat eyed, hair is long and on flick, and a dark or light matte lipstick are the only options, dear. Girl’s hair can have her messy curls giving it a volume. When it comes to men’s hair, the trendy style today is none other than the man bun. They make their hair long enough reaching their shoulders and put it on a bun. Some have their hair undershaved and just ties up the remaining hair and then viola!

In the end, it’s not about the brand. It’s about how you carry it. We have different personalities and our personalities never depended on what kind of clothes that we wore. But critics will always be there to judge your style, so just shake it off and own it.

Crystal Mirror
By Angelica N. Siaton

Purity is compared to the lily. Have you ever closely studied this flower? I wonder how many times your eyes have rested upon this white chalice, delighting yourself in its fragrant perfume. There are three things that distinguish this lovely flower from all other.

Lily holds herself high like a fair slim princess; its unblemished and innocent corolla jealously tends to open only to the gaze of the flashing sun and stars; striving as it were, to draw herself distant from the disgusting earth to reserve all her sweet incense for the skies.

A pure lily like a girl holds her head high. Her looks have an enchanting sincerity, her expression is calm; her whole being radiates innocence. An indescribable peace rules over her soul, because joy and peace and chastity are inseparable. The lips of a lily are like fountain of sweet melodies and smiles reflect the peace of its heart.

The eyes of the chaste soul for they also inspect the heavens. Such a soul longs for the heights too, for noble ideals, for the vast and serene horizons. It does not love anything that is shame or empty pleasure. Only to God does it direct its gaze; it is grand with virtue, with the most beautiful virtue of purity.

We cannot compare the beauty of the heavens, the brightness of the stars, the magnificence of the wheeling sun or the haunting perfume of the flowers with the beauty of a pure soul. This may be altogether an interior beauty. Nevertheless, it is reflected even in the face of the pure. O what a difference between a chaste person and one who has fallen into shame! They are diamond and coal; as light and darkness, as Heaven and hell.

But then, purity reflects you for who you are. Moreover, nobody feels the full of feeling attractions of nature more than chaste. Nobody reflects on and is more intimate with God than he. Not only in heaven will the pure see God but also here on earth. Purity is constant and passionate love, this love profaned by the lips of a carefree youth corrupted by vice. They don’t know what it means to love sincerely and deeply, to give and sacrifice themselves wholly for the one they love. Their better self is disfigured by vice.

Purity, like a crystal mirror, is most sensitive. A speck of dust is sufficient to ruin its whiteness; and it is precisely renders beautiful beyond imagination. Consider the lilies; a pure soul is also beautiful that it draws the eyes of God to rest upon it with satisfaction.

Raise your gaze on high my young friends; always on high: where the sky is brighter and the air more refreshing; where purity reigns flawless; and therefore there is joy and peace and love.

Looking For Alaska Book Review
By Laiza Marie Tanguin

Looking for Alaska, written by the famous American novelist John Green, created an unexpected twist and fluctuated my emotions from feeling giddy to grief in instant as I read it continuously.

Starting from Miles “Pudge” Halter’s new journey at Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama, far away from his home, he learned to become independent. Aiming to seek a great perhaps inspired by Francois Rabelais was on top of his list. He was able to find answers on how to get out on the labyrinth of life’s difficulties.

Pudge, who loves memorizing the last words of famous people, meets Colonel who has the habit of memorizing the capitals of each country in the world, has been with him till the end of the story to find clues and answers after the tragedy happened.

Alaska, on the other hand, is a girl who loves to read, but drinks and smokes too much. She is full of mysteries from her past that neither did I understand her. The amount of time the she’s alive in the book was too short leaving you curiosity about her life, about why she acted that way. Pudge admired her too much and Alaska was insensitive enough to notice Pudge for she has a boyfriend. It will keep you wondering why Pudge even adores Alaska. Their love was complicated.

I have expected that the book would be one typical love story where the boy falls in love to a perfect girl and in the end they’ll end up being together. The book turned out to be so much more. It is unique and has originality. It’s not just about some teenage love, but it’s also about friendship and life. It is close to reality. I recommend this book for it will give you deeper understanding that everything has an explanation of why it is that way. That for young adults, self discovery and time is important. That some are meant to be not known for it will change the way you see in things permanently.

This is indeed, no doubt, one of John Green’s great book written that deserves an award. He always has his own technique and signature in writing that his lines from his book will leave marks to his readers. Seeking for a great perhaps? You should definitely start with this book!

WAYS TO WALK SMART
Lifestyle
By Espie Corral

1. Walk often. Maintain to walk depends on your level of fitness and the duration of your walks.

2. Walk fast. Speed matters. People who maintain a faster pace while walking will burn more calories and get better result. After a few weeks of regular walking, a leisurely stroll just won’t cut it.

3. Walk long. For the beginner you need to walk 10 minutes a day if you want life- changing, body shape changing results. It’s important to consider how often and how fast you walk. A good ideal duration is to walk seven day perspective, when you can vary your duration.

4. Swing your arms. It helps to burn your extra calories. Swinging your arms energetically can help you to burn up to 10 percent more calories while you walk. Swinging your arms a little faster will also encourage your legs to come along for the ride, and it’s a good way to increase your pace.

5. Add variety to your walking routine. There’s no doubt that variety is the spice of life, and same rules applies in walking. Try to vary the location, time of day, intensity, and duration of your walks to maintain interest.

6. Measure your progress. As your walking improves your legs will be stronger, you may weigh a little less, and your lungs will breathe a little easier. It means that you burned fewer calories.

7. Eat and drink well. While maximizing your health and validity, what you eat and drink will have a major impact on your results. Exercise is only half a picture.

8. Walk before breakfast. If you go for a walk in the morning before breakfast, your blood sugar are low, you are more likely you use stored fat as fuel. You don’t necessarily burn more calories, but you burn off a higher proportion of fat as fuel than when you walk after breakfast.

9. Get stronger. Walking is a wonderful exercise, but it does very little to strengthen your upper body and your abdomen core. Adding weights to walking is a great addition to every walker’s health and fitness routine.

Have a Healthy Lifestyle, Live Longer
By Julie M. Fernandez

According to one article, being healthy is not just about what you eat even though that is a big portion. Being healthy is about how you treat your body, meaning what you put into it, and the type of things you put your body through.

People are just hesitant to make changes in their lives. Most people think that being healthy is an expensive and difficult lifestyle. It is not much different or much more expensive than the way the most people live now. So these are merely excuses that hold people back from leading healthy lives.

One of the things that you need to consider to have a healthier way of life is to alter the way you eat. Everyone should eat lots of fruits and vegetables, meats whole grains and healthy oils and fats. Others think that these are more expensive. Sometimes, this may be true, but most of the time you pay for what you get. If you spend the little extra n your meats, vegetables and fruits, then in the end you are doing yourself a favor. So, if you buy cheap food, without nutritional value, then it is usually not healthy.

Another factor to being healthy is exercise. Daily exercise helps to maintain a healthy body. Exercising helps the body in shape and young looking. People who exercise also have strength and are able to perform physical activity for a long time. Exercise can be fun if you make it, and anyone can do it without a gym membership.

One more thing anyone can do to maintain a healthy style is to take multivitamins. People should take vitamins to stay ahead and make sure their body is getting the essential vitamins and minerals they need.

The third thing to achieve a healthy lifestyle is also about the choices you make. If you put alcohol and drugs into your body on a regular basis, then you are abusing your body. This is not a healthy choice. Your body works very hard to keep you healthy so you should not do things that work against your body.

Having a healthy lifestyle is what you make it. It is not hard and expensive as people say. It is just people having to change habits and get used to eating healthier. Taking vitamin supplements, exercising, and most especially eating healthy are all part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Escudero vs Comelec
by Bernice Magadia

MANILA – Senator Francis Escudero called Election Commissioner, Rowena Guanzon a “threat to democracy".

Escudero is the running mate of Senator Grace Poe in the 2016 elections. Chief of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) explained a comment to Senator Grace Poe’s petitions to the Supreme Court to overturn two decisions of the election watchdog to disqualify her from this year's presidential race.

In a statement, Escudero asked, Comelec Chairman, Andres Bautista to fight internal attempts to undermine the integrity of the election commission and expose the officials who were trying to “sabotage the electoral process.”

Last week, Comelec became public after Chairman Bautista deny comments made by Guanzon before the Supreme Court in relation to a case involving presidential bet Grace Poe.

Liberal Party standard-bearer Ma Roxas, said the election commissioners were “mature” people who could resolve the controversy among themselves.

“Let us leave it to them. We have nothing to do with it. They are the ones to decide,” Roxas told reporters in Imus City.

Next president on issues in the Philippines
By Julie M. Fernandez

In social media, there is an increasing number of voters who answer “none of the above” when asked about their choice from the presidential candidates. There has been much confusion and indecision among the list on who to vote for president.

Nowadays, their lack of choice is based on what they perceive as the weakness of all the candidates about the burning issues in the country.

According to the survey, three major issues in this regard and fits to be discussed will surely motivate voters to choose one candidate over the other.

First is poverty, which is a major issue that influences voter preference. On 2014, government figures show that the poverty incidence in the country’s total population of 100 million is 26 percent. Thus, this issue resonates at least 26 million Filipinos. According to the latest Pulse Asia Survey, of all the candidates, Jejomar Binay appears to be more effectively connecting with the people.

The second major issue among voters is criminality. A big deal with it is the large drug problem that leads to the manipulation of peace and order. The increasing drug problem is reflected in the extensive support for Rodrigo Duterte, who promises rapid action to eradicate the drug menace in the country. Duterte’s words in this regard resonate with voters who live in free of the many crimes that the drug problem brings.

Corruption is the third major issue that shapes the choice of many voters. Personal enrichment while in office is a big turnoff for many voters. Duterte, Poe, and Roxas are drawing huge voter to support because of their stand against corruption.

There are many other candidate-specific issues such as qualifications, dictatorial character, and competence, which influence voter preference. However, corruption, poverty, and criminality are the main issues that will exert great influence on the election of the next president who will lead the Philippines to prosperity, stagnation or perdition starting of 30th of June.
