What to do if there's an earthquake?
During an earthquake, immediately DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON. If indoors, drop to the ground, cover your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk, and hold on with one hand while holding the furniture. If outdoors, move to an open area away from buildings, power lines, and trees. If in a car, pull over to a clear location and stay inside until the shaking stops.
If you are indoors:
1. DROP: to the ground on your hands and knees.
2. COVER: your head and neck with your arms.
3. If possible, crawl under a sturdy desk or table for protection.
4. HOLD ON: to the object with one hand, ready to move if it shifts.
5. Stay away from windows, heavy furniture, and anything that could fall.
6. If you are in bed, stay there and cover your head and neck with a pillow.
7. Do not use elevators.
8. If you use a wheelchair or walker, lock the wheels and remain seated.
If you are outdoors:
1. Move to an open space away from buildings, power lines, and trees.
2. Drop to the ground and stay there until the shaking stops.
If you are in a vehicle:
1. Pull over to a clear, open location away from buildings, overpasses, and utility wires.
2. Set your parking brake and stay in the vehicle until the shaking stops.
Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped.
