Albay’s DWTA and SB19’s Justin win Folk Song of the Year at Filipino Music Awards

Albay’s very own singer-songwriter DWTA, together with SB19’s Justin, won Folk Song of the Year for their track “Sampung Mga Daliri” at the First Filipino Music Awards held on October 21, 2025, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The acoustic folk-pop track, featuring the powerful voices of DWTA and Justin, was first performed live at the 10th Wish Music Awards on January 19.

“Sampung Mga Daliri,” a well-known Filipino nursery rhyme, was turned into a heartfelt folk-pop song about lost love. The song was penned by DWTA.

Other nominees in the category included songs by Amiel Sol, Ben&Ben, MATÉO, and Noel Cabangon.

The Filipino Music Awards honored top OPM artists across 20 awards and five major categories.

Congratulations, dwta!

Cloudy Skies, isolated rainshowers expected over Bicol region

PAGASA reported on Wednesday, October 22 that several areas in the Philippines will experience cloudy skies with rain due to four prevailing weather systems.

In the Bicol Region, cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected due to the effects of easterlies.

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor.

Aurora, Eastern Visayas, and Quezon will also see cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Batanes will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains from the northeasterly windflow, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience localized thunderstorms.

Bishop Baylon: Safeguarding is a ‘Gospel Imperative’

Safeguarding is not just Church policy but a “Gospel imperative” rooted in Christian love, Bishop Joel Z. Baylon of Legazpi said Monday, October 20, during the opening Mass of the first National Safeguarding Conference.

“Safeguarding is not merely a program—it is a culture, a way of life. It is a way of being Church,” Bishop Baylon said in his homily at the San Fernando Cathedral in Pampanga.

The bishop emphasized that safeguarding should come from personal conversion and a promise to show God’s love and mercy in all actions and relationships.

More than 370 bishops, safeguarding officers, and pastoral workers from the Philippines and nearby countries attended the four-day event organized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Office for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults.

Bishop Baylon also acknowledged the “painful reality of abuse and betrayal of trust” in the Church, especially towards children and vulnerable adults.

He emphasized that the Church must respond with truth and compassion.

“Accountability and compassion are not opposites; they are two hands of the same Body of Christ,” he said. “One hand protects the vulnerable; the other seeks to heal the sinner.”

“Safeguarding is not only about preventing harm—it is about revealing the heart of God,” he continued.
