PRAYER TO SAINT MONICA
St. Monica (331–387), mother of St. Augustine, is remembered for her patience, faith, and perseverance in prayer. Despite a difficult marriage and the wayward life of her son, she never gave up. Through her tears and prayers, her husband, mother-in-law, and finally Augustine were converted. She died at peace, having seen God answer her deepest prayer.
Let us pray:
Faithful God,
light and joy of our hearts,
we thank You for St. Monica,
a woman of deep faith and persevering love.
She cared for her son Augustine with Christ’s compassion
and never ceased urging him toward the path of holiness.
In Your mercy, You answered her tearful prayers
with the gift of his conversion,
filling her with joy beyond all she hoped for.
Through her intercession, hear our petitions today.
As You once drew Augustine to Yourself,
draw our hearts ever closer to You,
O beauty ever ancient, ever new.
Amen.
Saint Monica, pray for us!
