Following the recent Municipal Meet 2026, concerns were raised regarding the wording used in some of our sports articles “meant” to belittle, attack, or insult the players and teams who competed against Leon National High School.

The language used in our articles was written within the context of 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗢. Words in our articles such as "pinabagsak," "dinurog," "pinatumba," and "nilampaso" are examples of this lingo. We understand that some people may find certain sports terms or expressions offensive. These words are used within the context of sports and are never intended to insult, mock, demean, or disrespect any player or team. Sports have their own language and expressions.

𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗢

Sports lingo is a specialized vocabulary and set of expressions used by journalists who write about sports. It relies on punchy, action-oriented verbs and powerful yet engaging language to capture the intensity, emotion, and movement of every game.

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦

A sports article that is overly formal, plain, and stripped of action fails to capture the intensity, emotion, and excitement of the game. As the game itself is alive, the article must bring that same experience to its readers.

Our purpose in writing these articles is to inform, engage, and bring life to the game. The terms used are meant to capture the intensity of a game and describe what happened during the game.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗦 𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗦

As campus journalists, context and responsible writing will always matter. We must know the difference between creative sports writing and language that genuinely crosses the line into personal attacks or disrespect. But we must also understand that not every powerful word is automatically an insult, and not every competitive expression is unethical.

We acknowledge that words can be interpreted differently by different readers. As student journalists, we remain committed to serving with truth, integrity, and excellence.

We stand by the purpose of sports journalism: to tell the story of the game, highlight the achievements of our athletes, and capture the moment of competition. However, we also know that responsible journalism requires us to remain open to criticism and reflection.

gathering that brings together young people from across the

empowers the youth to deepen their friendship with Christ and return
to their respective neighborhoods as joyful, active leaders in service.

Parish Youth Day 2026 is our declaration that today’s youth are
