On this day, September 21, 1972, then President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines through Proclamation No. 1081, s. 1972.

Civil liberties were stripped awayโ€”freedom of speech, of the press, and of assembly were suppressed. The writ of habeas corpus, the protection against unlawful arrest, was suspended. The military and police were given unchecked power, leading to the arrest of thousandsโ€”activists, journalists, opposition leaders, church workers, farmers, and even students accused of subversion.

Reports documented widespread torture, extrajudicial killings, and more than a thousand cases of enforced disappearances. Families waited for loved ones who never returned. Fear blanketed the nation, and silence became the only shield for survival.

Yet amid the darkness, courage endured. Students marched, writers risked their voices, communities stood in quiet defiance, and faith leaders opened their doors to protect the oppressed. Their sacrifices planted the seeds of the freedom we continue to enjoy today.

As we commemorate this day, we honor the memory of those who suffered, those who vanished, and those who never lived to see democracy restored. Their struggle is a reminder that freedom is fragile, and silence in the face of tyranny is complicity.

Let this day strengthen our resolve to defend truth, uphold justice, and ensure that the words Never Again, Never Forget are not just spoken, but lived.

The Boy Scouts of the Philippinesโ€“Camarines Sur Council of the 2nd Congressional District successfully held the Area-wide Advancement Camp for Boy Scouts and Senior Scouts on September 5โ€“7, 2025. The three-day, two-night camp, hosted at Pamplona Central School for elementary scouts and Pamplona National High School for senior scouts, aimed to enhance scouting skills, promote growth, and prepare scouts for higher ranks.

Seventeen (17) Senior Scouts from San Juan National High School (SJNHS) joined the advancement camp, which featured a variety of activities designed to test their discipline, leadership, and teamwork.

The camp formally opened with a grand program that included remarks and inspirational messages from adult scouters, as well as spirited yells from participating schools. Scouts were then oriented on camp rules and activities. On the second day, participants started with Zumba and flag-raising before proceeding to rank-based activities, divided into Explorer, Pathfinder, Outdoorsmanship, and Venturer. The day culminated in a grand campfire, highlighted by school presentations of yells, songs, and skits, as well as the search for Mr. & Ms. Senior Scout, vocal solo, vocal duet, and a โ€œGot Talentโ€ showcase.

The third and final day opened with another Zumba exercise, followed by the Duty to God Mass in honor of Ina, Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia. The closing program included the scoutsโ€™ parade and the awarding ceremony.

Under the leadership of Senior Crew Leader (SCL) Jasmine Rose C. Blance, SJNHS Senior Scouts achieved significant milestones. They will be promoted to higher ranks, marking their eligibility to pursue the next levels of scouting advancement.

In addition to their promotions, the SJNHS delegation proudly brought home awards:

๐Ÿฅ‡ 1st Place in Community Service Activity
๐Ÿฅˆ 2nd Place in Weather Forecasting
๐Ÿฅˆ 2nd Place in First Aid
๐Ÿฅ‰ 3rd Place in Best in Marching (Scouts Parade)
๐ŸŽ– Special Recognition Award, which was conferred to only two schools out of twenty participating institutions.

These accomplishments, coupled with merit badges earned in Swimming, Pioneering, First Aid, Camping, Weather, Safety, Citizenship, Cooking, and Ropework, reflect the diligence and perseverance of the SJNHS Senior Scouts.

Guided throughout the camp by their Outfit Advisor, Sctr. Jason D. Brioso, WBH, and Assistant Outfit Advisor, Joy M. Brioso, WBH, the Senior Scouts were inspired and motivated to maximize their participation and excel in every activity.

The success of the scouts was also made possible through the support of the school administration led by Sir Perry O. Coruno, Principal, alongside the guidance of teachers, advisers, parents, and scout leaders.

The SJNHS Senior Scoutsโ€™ participation in the Area-wide Advancement Camp 2025 stands as a testament to their dedication to the Scout Oath and Law, embodying service to God, country, and fellowmen with integrity and courage.

๐—ฆ๐—๐—ก๐—›๐—ฆ ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | SJNHS Holds Pedagogy Reading Seminar for Master Teachers

San Juan National High School (SJNHS) conducted a Pedagogy Reading seminar on September 5, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR).

The training-seminar aimed to enhance literacy instruction and empower master teachers with new strategies in teaching reading.

The program formally opened with a prayer led by Mr. Jocel I. Villalon, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an audiovisual presentation.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Perry O. Coruno, Secondary School Principal I, highlighted the importance of professional growth among teachers.

This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Ana Juana Margarita V. Doblon, PhD, Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) of Libmanan I, who encouraged teachers to remain dedicated to improving student learning. Mr. Richard O. Caรฑas, Master Teacher II, then introduced the guest speaker, Ms. Franlie Ramos, Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in English, Schools Division of Camarines Sur.

In her session, Ms. Ramos discussed the role of effective language use in teaching and stressed the importance of English fluency during classroom demonstrations.

She also conducted activities on text coding, correct pronunciation, and verb usage to enhance teachersโ€™ literacy instruction skills.

One of the seminarโ€™s highlights was Ms. Ramosโ€™ lecture on the Simple View of Reading, which explained the need to balance decoding and comprehension to improve reading outcomes.

The speaker further emphasized that beginning readers, especially in kindergarten, rely heavily on pictures to identify words and meaning. She noted that developing pronunciation skills and using English songs can also support early literacy. She reminded teachers of their responsibility to model correct language use and to apply strategies that strengthen studentsโ€™ comprehension.

The activity concluded with the awarding of Ms. Ramos for her contribution and a group photo with the participants, symbolizing the teachersโ€™ commitment to promoting effective literacy instruction at SJNHS.
