Ahead of the National Midterm Elections on May 12 and USC-CSC Elections on May 15, the College of Education Student Council (CoEdSC) held a Voter Education webinar via Zoom on Saturday morning, May 10.

With the theme, "Educators Elect: Shaping the Future through Informed Votes," the webinar featured two civic talks from Atty. Regine Garcelazo, UEP Vice President for Administration and Finance, and Kyle Laila De Asis, a Tindog Kabataan member.

The first discussion, facilitated by Atty. Garcelazo, centered on the topic Understanding the Role of Law in Maintaining Democratic Process and Legal Recourse for Voting Rights Violations, where she shared her expertise in legal policies surrounding the electoral process.

Meanwhile, De Asis focused on Youth Participation and Electoral Literacy. Her discussion revolved around the power of the youth during elections and the qualities voters should look for in a candidate.

An open forum after each talk was also facilitated, providing an opportunity for the attendees to ask questions and share various concerns and experiences related to the electoral process.

Notably, contrary to the CoEdSC's announcement, the webinar was not streamed live on Facebook due to the slow internet connection, limiting the number of participants to what the Zoom meeting could only accommodate.

"I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to all participants who were unable to join the Zoom meeting and who expected to watch the event live on Facebook," Janua Growee Balanquit, CoEdSC President, expressed in an interview.

"Despite this technical difficulty, our resource speakers were present and ready by 8:00 AM. To honor their time, the working committee decided to proceed with the program as scheduled, record the entire session, and later share highlights, especially the talks of our resource speakers," Mr. Balanquit explained.

The CoEdSC further confirmed that the recorded webinar is expected to be posted on their official page tonight at 7 p.m.

Each representing candidate from the three prominent student parties running for seats in the College of Education Student Council (CoEdSC) recently answered questions relating to their stance on key local and national issues significantly affecting the students.

Patterned from the roster of issues during The Pillar's PUKSAAN: Mudslinging Debate 2025's Raise Round, held on May 8, this initiative aimed to provide insights into what the candidates prioritize and the vision they hold for the student body.

Ultimately, the candidates' positions reflect their commitment to addressing student concerns. It is hoped that their responses will be useful to the student-voters as they make an informed choice in the upcoming elections.
