PLDT SUBSCRIBERS MAY EXPERIENCE LIMITED OR NO INTERNET CONNECTION FROM SEPT. 25-30, 2020

In a recent PLDT Advisory (Sept. 23), they mentioned that an "Emergency maintenance activities will be conducted on the Asian American Gateway (AAG), one of PLDT's international cable systems, from Friday, 25 September 2020 8:00 a.m. to Wednesday, 30 September 2020 5:00 a.m. (Philippine Standard Time)."

There is no clarity as to what will the effect when it comes to its subscribers' connection. We can only assume that it may be limited or no internet connection at all. Everyone needs to be ready.

PLDT however assures that, "PLDT and Smart Communications, Inc. subscribers that measures have been put in place to minimize this activity's impact." And that the will "provide regular updates as the operation progresses".

Update from PLDT (June 24, 2020): THERE WILL BE A "continued access"

"...we wish to assure PLDT and Smart customers of continued internet connectivity all throughout. We have identified alternative cable systems to keep our connectivity resilient. We have also adopted measures such as traffic rerouting and local caching, ensuring that most frequently downloaded content are located in the Philippines. Students can still do their online studies and exams, and users in homes and businesses can go about their normal internet-based activities during this time."

Freelancers are advised to do the following:

1. Have a BACKUP internet provider.

2. COMMUNICATE with your clients in advance that you may have limited internet on these times.

3. CHECK OUT IN ADVANCE possible coffee shops, co-working spaces, and the like with stable internet during these times that you can possibly use for freelancing.

4. COMPLETE tasks in advance so when this will take effect, nothing is compromised.

5. Consider other OFFLINE productive activities you can do when there will be no internet access.
