The BioloGay is an educational podcast led by two medical researchers searching for gender inclusivity in biology. The first of its kind, the podcast combines biology with discourses on gender and s*xuality—such as relevant challenges, diseases, stigmas, and medical discrimination facing the LGBTQIA+ community.
In this pilot episode, The BioloGay invites four guests; a general practitioner, a nurse, a biology professor, and a surgeon. The esteemed guests offer guidelines for gender inclusivity in biology—𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐀 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝟖 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 or in Filipino, 𝐌𝐚𝐠-𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐩 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐈𝐧𝐤𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭: 𝐀𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝟖 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞.
From s*x to gender, gender to s*xuality, and health to discrimination, the episode explores the eight, hence “Ultim8,” guidelines. Using the easy-to-remember acronym MEDICINE, the “prescriptions” share critical and evidence-grounded insights on how the world of medical biology can ultimately espouse gender sensitivity and progressiveness—from archaic medical terminologies until the revision of medical curricula.
This podcast is brought to you by the following SOSC 3 students from the University of the Philippines Los Baños: Marc Andre Esguerra, AC Gura, Rochelle Laqui, Winfred Maryel Pangan, Janelle Allyson Salayo, and Joanna Alexis Samarita.
