๐ก๐๐ช๐ฆ | The Lamp Bearers Organization holds its first Safe Space seminar for student nurses
The Lamp Bearers Organization (LBO) of the Nursing Department under the College of Health Sciences held its first event for all nursing students, specifically first-year and second-year students, with the theme โSafe Space: A Session for Listening, Healing, and Growing Togetherโ, at the JVC Theater, August 29, 2025.
โBasic human needs like love, safety, belonging, and respect are powerful healing forces.โ As the student nurses of Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. embark on their educational enrichment to fulfill their duties as future RNs, it is always important to care not only for physical health but also for oneโs mental well-being.
The program began with an opening remark delivered by Mr. Rolando Raposa, LBO's Internal Vice President. This was followed by a talk from the eventโs guest speaker, Mr. Justine Philippe โAJโ Ranuda, CHRA.
One of the key purposes of the event was to engage every student nurse in the importance of โverbalizing your problems,โ or being vocal about and facing oneโs struggles and hurdles. Mr. Ranuda discussed the connection between mind and body and its alignment with questions about oneโs purpose and the drive to achieve what the mind and body truly desire.
The event tackled how it is integral to speak or vocalize oneโs problems in real life with a companion who will listen. It highlighted that although there are challenges one may face as a student nurse, it is important to maintain balance between caring for others and caring for oneself, to find and never lose oneโs purpose in life, and to make wise decisions along the way. As Mr. Ranuda stated, โEvery decision that is born out of compassion is a good decision after all.โ
The event was followed by an activity where students were allowed to share their thoughts on โOne Burden I Want to Let Goโ by writing them on sticky notes. They were also asked questions regarding their challenges, which were all answered honestly by Mr. Ranuda. The seminar concluded with the closing remarks of the LBO President, Ms. Rolaine Sasot, who stated that this event is an important one, as it provides a safe space for all.
