"Social Media is like crack - immediately gratifying and hugely addictive"
The new digital age has come, and the media's pervasive influence on our lives is undeniable. It shapes our thoughts, dictates our words, govern our actions, and limits our ability to adapt to the ever-changing modern life.
As the new era technology evolves, we unwittingly plunge into its twisted and complex idepths. We box ourselves within screens and virtual realms that often isolates us from the tangible world. Social media then morphs into our predominant identity, overshadowing our true and genuine selves. This leaves us mentally and emotionally drained and fatigued, blurring the boundaries between reality and virtuality.
This age has a huge difference from the contemporary world. Unlike in the past, social interaction is rich and prevalent since there are only fewer ways that we can interact with each other only via letters, telegrams, and phone calls wherein we directly talk to people and most importantly our loved ones. Nowadays, we are meddling in a congested virtual world wherein there is more to come if media users are not responsible and literate about the pros and cons of using media.
And so, as users of the media, we must always remember to be responsible, accountable, and disciplined. Never let it domineer who you truly are and instead you should determine how you adapt to it.
At all times, be a media information literate.
